Netflix has announced several new faces that will be joining the cast of Wednesday season 2. Steve Buscemi will be playing a character named Barry Dort, who is meant to be the new principal of Nevermore Academy. Other names new to the series include Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, and, of course, Christopher Lloyd, who is the only actor joining this season who has played in a previous The Addams Family adaptation. Of course, this isn’t the only franchise this actor is known for.
Christopher Lloyd Could Reprise His Back To The Future Mad-Scientist Role In Wednesday Season 2
A Mad Scientist Nevermore Teacher Would Fit Right In With Wednesday’s Aesthetic
While Lloyd’s portrayal of Uncle Fester in The Addams Family is iconic, his most memorable role would be Doctor Emmett Brown from the Back to the Future franchise. The actor was perfect for the part, with his high energy, expressive face and body language, and wild white hair perfectly aligning with the mad scientist trope. This is a significant reason Lloyd’s performance in Back to the Future is remembered so fondly, and it is precisely this that makes his addition to Wednesday so perfect.
Though we still don’t know anything about Lloyd’s role, seeing a character similar to Dr. Brown in Wednesday season 2 would be great. A mad scientist character would be right at home at Nevermore, especially as a teacher. This would allow Lloyd to bring all that quirky cookiness to the screen once again, reminding audiences nostalgically of two of his most memorable characters all at once—it would be a brilliant union of Uncle Fester and Dr. Emmett Brown.
Christopher Lloyd Being A Nevermore Teacher Continues A Wednesday Season 1 Trend
Christopher Lloyd’s Character Can Replace Christina Ricci’s Miss Thornhill
Lloyd playing a cooky, mad scientist teacher in Wednesday season 2 would make sense beyond nostalgic reasons, too. In season 1, Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday alongside Lloyd’s Uncle Fester in the ’90s Addams Family movies, played a teacher, Miss Thornhill. If Lloyd were to play a teacher in season 2, it could establish a fun trend in which a legacy Addams Family cast member joins Wednesday to play a new, mysterious Nevermore teacher.
Of course, Ricci’s Miss Thornhill was secretly the Wednesday season 1 villain. It’s certainly possible that the same would be true for a new teacher, potentially played by Lloyd. However, this would mean a somewhat predictable trend. It’s possible Wednesday could take a leaf out of Harry Potter‘s book, where new teachers are introduced yearly, with some being secret villains, some being overtly horrible from the beginning, and others being red herons. If Wednesday duplicated this with Addams Family cast members, it could be an interesting series formula.
Other Possible Characters Christopher Lloyd Could Play In Wednesday Season 2
Christopher Lloyd Could Play A Different Kind Of Character Entirely
While a mad scientist teacher would be perfect for Lloyd, he could feasibly be playing several potential characters in Wednesday season 2. There are various interesting people and creatures at Nevermore Academy, and with the citizens of Jericho, the nearby town, which was only briefly explored in season 1, there are many opportunities here as well. Of course, more Addams Family characters have yet to be brought in to Wednesday. Lloyd might not be able to return to his role as Uncle Fester, but another Addams may be fair game.
A popular Addams Family character that fans have been hoping to see is Cousin Itt, and since this character’s face is entirely covered by hair, this could be a hilarious secret cameo for Lloyd.
A popular Addams Family character that fans have been hoping to see is Cousin Itt, and since this character’s face is entirely covered by hair, this could be a hilarious secret cameo for Lloyd. On that same note, other extended Addamses could make an appearance, and even some brand new family characters could be welcomed if actors as iconic as Lloyd portrayed them. Ultimately, we will have to wait and see. No matter who Lloyd plays in Wednesday season 2, the actor will surely be a wonderfully spooky (and kooky) addition.
