Julian Booth’s journey in The Resident is marked by her passionate advocacy for patient safety, her complex relationships, and a dramatic event involving a near-fateful car wreck. Her storyline is not just a testament to Dewan’s compelling performance but also highlights the show’s ability to tackle serious issues within the healthcare industry through its characters’ personal and professional challenges. It’s crucial to understand the impact her character has had on the show and its audience, which is why the car wreck came as such a shock.
Julian Survived The Car Wreck In The Resident
She Overcame The Dangers That Whistleblowers Face

The suspense surrounding Julian Booth’s fate reached its peak when her car was discovered at the bottom of a river, a direct consequence of her efforts to expose the fraudulent activities of QuoVadis. This moment left fans in a state of uncertainty, questioning if Julian survived the crash. The storyline cleverly played with the viewers’ expectations, prolonging the mystery until it was finally revealed that Julian had miraculously escaped the wreck unscathed. This revelation was not only a relief but also a significant narrative turning point, marking Julian’s physical and metaphorical survival against the corrupt forces she sought to uncover.
Julian’s survival from the car wreck is pivotal for The Resident, serving as a testament to the show’s commitment to addressing serious issues within the medical industry through thrilling and emotionally charged storylines. Her miraculous escape and the decision to remain hidden to protect herself and others from further retaliation add layers of depth to her character and the show’s exploration of the dangers whistleblowers face. This storyline underscores the resilience of individuals fighting for justice and the personal sacrifices they must endure, enriching the show’s narrative complexity and emotional resonance.
Julian Lived, But Her Relationship With Devon Did Not
Julian Focused On Creating A Nonprofit Organization

Upon Julian’s dramatic return, her relationship with Devon Pravesh quickly rekindled, reigniting the spark that had previously entranced viewers. Their romance, however, faced new challenges as Julian committed herself to founding a nonprofit aimed at holding medical device companies accountable, a decision born from her harrowing experiences with QuoVadis. This ambitious endeavor required her undivided attention and dedication, leading to the mutual decision to put their relationship on hold. Julian’s choice highlights the often difficult balance between personal relationships and professional aspirations, especially in the high-pressure world of medical advocacy.
The evolution and eventual pause of Julian and Devon’s relationship are significant to The Resident, offering a nuanced look at how personal and professional lives intertwine and impact each other. Their breakup is portrayed with a maturity that respects both characters’ growth and ambitions, rather than resorting to melodrama.
This development not only adds depth to Julian and Devon as individuals, but also reflects the show’s broader themes of sacrifice, commitment, and the pursuit of a greater good. Their story serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities of love and ambition in a world where the stakes are life and death, further enriching the narrative tapestry of The Resident.
What Jenna Dewan Has Done Since Leaving The Resident
From Julian In The Resident To Bailey In The Rookie

Julian leaving The Resident may have been a shock for some fans of the show, but it didn’t hinder actress Jenna Dewan’s career in the slightest. On the contrary, her next prominent role after playing Julian in The Resident was a significant step forward for her career. After parting ways with playing Julian in 2019, Jenna Dewan initially went on to play Joanna in the short-lived Netflix musical drama Soundtrack.
Soundtrack also arrived in 2019, but Netflix canceled the show after a single season. However, this wasn’t the role that many now know Jenna Dewan for. In 2021, the actress signed on with ABC to portray another career-defining character – Bailey Nune in the hit Nathan Filion-led police procedural The Rookie.
The Rookie has been one of ABC’s most popular shows since it debuted on the network in 2018. Jenna Dewan joined the show in season 3, with her character Bailey initially being a recurring character before becoming a main cast member from season 4 onward. Bailey Nune is an integral character to The Rookie too, as she eventually becomes the wife of Nathan Filion’s John Nolan, the central figure in the show (and the titular rookie).
However, while The Rookie is perhaps now Jenna Dewan’s most well known appearance (surpassing even playing Julian in The Resident), this isn’t the full extent of her recent career either. She also had a recurring role in seasons 2 and 3 of Superman & Lois as Lucy Lane, the younger sister of Superman’s significant other, reporter Lois Lane. She also had a handful of appearances on the big screen too, appearing in the 2019 movies Berlin, I Love You and The Wedding Year, followed by Let’s Get Physical in 2022.
All in all, stepping away from playing Julian in The Resident appears to have been a positive career move for Jenna Dewan. She continues to play Bailey in The Rookie, and, of course, is also still widely recognized for earlier roles such as Nora in the Step Up film franchise.
