Supernatural refuses to erase itself from pop culture relevance as the CW series starring Jensen Ackles proves why it’s the best one around – even 15 years later!

Jensen Ackles and Supernatural

The cultural influence of Supernatural is unparalleled. A show that lasted for 15 seasons, made us laugh and cry and fall in love with angels, demons, rock music, flannel, and bickering siblings, kept us company through celebrations and heartbreaks, taught us the importance of found family, and redefined the very concept of love – Supernatural dug its claws in deep and refused to let go without shredding our hearts to bits by the end.

However, the show also gave us Jensen Ackles in all his glory. The 26-year-old man who literally crashed and stumbled into our lives in Season 1 Episode 1 grew up with the fans over the next 15 years, dropping nuggets of wisdom along the way – most of which Sam would strictly advise against following up on – and showed us that no love on earth could compare to the passion that Dean the character, Jensen the actor, and the entire Supernatural fandom has for Baby.

As such, in honor of the series that had it all, it isn’t surprising when fans stumble on a throwaway dialogue or an underhanded joke from the early seasons of the show that still hits the mark, even a decade down the line.

Supernatural Keeps Surprising Fans 13 Years Later

In the perpetually chaotic episodes of Supernatural that deal with evil Archangels, God, the Devil, and everything in between, there are certain moments of respite that simply call back to the good old days that involved killer clowns and poltergeists. During those days, Supernatural assumes its neo-noir identity, donning two painfully obvious rock musicians’s alter egos, and hunting down the evil that has been terrorizing a picturesque small town.

During one such episode in Season 6 that aired on February 4th, 2011, Sam (Jared Padalecki) wakes up from a coma and the brothers head down to Oregon to investigate a relatively normal case involving the disappearance of several local female virgins. Mid-investigation, Sam asks: “What kind of thing likes virgins and gold?” as Dean (Jensen Ackles) snarkily replies, “P Diddy.”

While the short exchange failed to strike a chord with most audiences 13 years ago, the dialogue holds extra meaning for the fans now given the rapper’s recent controversy and public scandal that found the 3-times Grammy-winner held behind bars on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, sexual assault, and more.

The resurfaced clip which has been going viral on every social platform in the past few hours has only convinced the audience that the industry insiders knew what was going on all along and Supernatural risked a defamation lawsuit to insinuate the truth about the rapper to its fanbase 13 years ago.

The Winchester Legacy Lives On, Despite the End

If there is one subject that is absolute in the world of all things Supernatural, it is the two flannel/suit/leather-clad brothers at the heart of the show listening to classic ’70s and ’80s rock music while cruising down the highway in their 1967 Chevy Impala. Whether they’re out on a hunt or trying to save the world from its 100th apocalypse, Sam and Dean are the glue that holds everything together, even with mad monsters and madder gods threatening to end it all.

Despite the divine drama and demonic interventions, the unfathomable love and infantile bickering between the two Winchester brothers played by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki kept the audience grounded throughout the show’s 15 seasons. Meanwhile, episodes like The French MistakeScoobynatural, and Changing Channels serve to remind the fans why the CW series will remain eternally evergreen and a 15-year-long fever dream at the same time.

The profound beauty of the series is in its legacy, however. The behind-the-scenes shenanigans and the fake brotherly bond that turned real somewhere along the way, watching each other grow up, falling in love, getting married, and raising their children together – Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki not only gave their fans a found family but healed an entire generation’s worth of trauma.

Supernatural Seasons 1-15 are available to stream on Netflix.
