Rumor has it that GTA 6 could be delayed even further than expected, leaving the PC master race in shambles. Is it time to buy a console?
The wait for GTA 6 has been an excruciatingly long one, and for PC gamers, the agony might just be prolonged even further. A recent rumor has surfaced, hinting at an internal delay by Rockstar Games that could push the release of the highly anticipated title to a much later date than initially expected.
But here’s the real gut-punch: the PC version might not see the light of day until a significant amount of time after the console launch.

This whisper in the wind, if proven true, is bound to leave many PC enthusiasts questioning their loyalty to the platform. After all, who wants to wait an eternity to explore the vibrant and chaotic virtual city of Vice?

The bombshell was dropped by X user Liam (@billsyliamgta), who claims to have received this information from “multiple developers across two studios”:
EXCLUSIVE: GTA VI has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window.
PC is planned for around 12 – 18 months after the console launch.

As expected, the Grand Theft Auto community is in a state of disbelief, with many hoping that this rumor is nothing more than a cruel joke:

But Liam seems to be highly confident in their sources:
Considering I’m 99.9% positive on this information, it’ll be a miracle.

Others are choosing to remain cautiously optimistic, waiting for an official announcement from Rockstar before hitting the panic button:
Feel free. Just giving everyone a heads up.

The thought of waiting even longer for the game on PC is enough to make some fans consider throwing in the towel and embracing the console life. After all, the prospect of exploring the highly detailed world of GTA 6 on a next-gen console is becoming increasingly tempting with each passing day.
Others, however, point out that delays are pretty much par for the course when it comes to Rockstar’s biggest releases:
I hate to say it but told ya so! Everyone was like oh it’s coming out in 2025 cause rockstar said. Even though gta 4 was delayed, gta 5 was delayed and rdr2! Yes rockstar delays games however they often turn out better as a result.

It’s a fair point. From GTA IV to Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar has a history of pushing back release dates to ensure that its games meet the studio’s notoriously high standards. While delays can be frustrating for fans, they often result in a better final product.
The Waiting Game Continues

Of course, it’s important to remember that this is still just a rumor at this point. Publisher Take-Two Interactive had previously given a tentative release window of ‘Fall 2025’ for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA 6, leading many to speculate that the PC release would follow in late 2026.
But if this X user’s sources are to be believed, even that estimate might have been overly optimistic. A late 2027 or 2028 release for GTA 6 on PC would be a tough pill to swallow for those who have been eagerly awaiting the chance to mod the game to their heart’s content.
As always, it’s best to take these rumors with a hefty grain of salt until we hear something official from Rockstar or Take-Two. In the meantime, all fans can do is sit tight and hope that the development of GTA 6 is still on track, regardless of platform.
But if the worst does come to pass and PC players are left waiting in the lurch for an extra year or two? Well, we wouldn’t blame you if you decided to jump ship and join the console crowd. Just don’t be surprised if your fellow members of the PC master race give you a few side-eyes on your way out.
What’s your take on this latest GTA 6 rumor? Will you be sticking it out for the PC release, or is the siren song of console gaming starting to sound more appealing? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
