The Until Dawn remake on PC apparently has far too many issues and has gotten nothing but criticism from fans. Especially for its hefty price tag.
The Until Dawn remake for PC and PlayStation 5 has absolutely flopped. Released on October 4 at the full price of $59.99, the game promised updated visuals, minor story tweaks, and technical improvements. However, the game’s launch has gone as bad as it can for a game release.
The launch has been full of technical problems, poor reviews, and a disappointingly low player count. The PC port, in particular, has been criticized for bugs and performance issues. Fans are left wondering if this title was ever worth the remake in the first place.
Until Dawn Isn’t Doing Too Well On PC
On Steam, Until Dawn debuted with only 2,607 concurrent players, making it Sony’s worst-performing PC port since titles like Concord and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
When compared to the success of other PlayStation single-player games like Ghost of Tsushima and God of War, which drew tens of thousands of players upon release, it’s clear that Until Dawn’s remake is struggling.
Until Dawn Remake runs worse than the original, has a lot more bugs and crashes.
It also costs $60 for some reason.

One of the major complaints from PC gamers has been the optimization of the game. From a technical standpoint, Until Dawn’s PC port is riddled with problems. Players have reported that ray tracing, which was one of the most hyped features, is completely broken and doesn’t do anything when enabled.
This, coupled with crashes and bugs, has made the PC port feel like an afterthought. Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the remake, has acknowledged these issues in a Steam post but provided no specific timeline for fixes.
This rough launch has severely impacted Until Dawn’s performance on the PC market. According to SteamDB, the game peaked at just 2,607 concurrent players.
Players who shelled out $60 for the remake have reported issues that ruin the experience, with the game sometimes freezing or failing to load properly. On PlayStation 5, the situation isn’t much better, as players have complained about frame pacing problems, poor resolution, and lighting changes that have severely impacted the game’s visuals.
It Also Costs Too Much For What Has Been Received As a Bad Remake

Perhaps the most egregious issue is the price. With no cheaper upgrade option for those who own the original game, players are being asked to pay a full $60 for what many feel is a downgrade. This pricing decision has been widely criticized, especially since the original game is almost a decade old.
Fans who were excited to relive the game with modern enhancements are instead left wondering why they paid so much for a product that not only looks and performs worse than the original but also has more problems like the PSN requirement.
Yes, it requires a PlayStation Network (PSN) account. Players were surprised by the remake’s PSN requirement, a feature that seems out of place for a single-player game. The need to log into PlayStation Network even on Steam has not sat well with fans one bit.
And this isn’t the first time Sony has pulled this move either. This requirement has become a point of contention in Sony’s recent PC releases, and until it is addressed, gamers will continue to hate it.
Have you tried the remake yet? What did you think of it? Let us know in the comments!
