Assassin’s Creed Shadows will come with a canon mode to make all the correct RPG decisions for you. Many players are often bogged down by the wide array of choices one has to make in an RPG game, which is why the developers have decided to come up with a canon mode that will do everything so that you can just sit back and enjoy the game without stressing over multiple choices.

Having said that, with a canon mode that makes decisions for you, Ubisoft seems to be forcing players to make the decisions it wants them to. You will not have the free will to dictate your path but would rather have to walk on the one laid down for you by the developer.

The canon mode in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a big reason why people would rather go for Baldur’s Gate 3 instead. Ubisoft seems to be taking the essence away from the game by introducing a mode that does everything for you.

Fans are extremely disappointed at this piece of news. However, players who prefer a more laid-back experience where they do not have to worry about making the right decision are going to have a nice time playing in the canon mode. Assassin’s Creed Shadows does, however, feature amazing stealth mechanics.

The essence of an RPG lies in the ability to choose and customize your experience based on the choices you make along the way, which the canon mode will be devoid of.

Baldur’s Gate 3, on the other hand, does not hold your hand and take you to the end, but rather leaves you to fend for yourself in a world full of resources, friends, and romance. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is also criticized for being historically inaccurate.

Ubisoft’s decision to include a canon mode is a gamble

It is not certain whether Ubisoft’s decision to include a canon mode will work in its favor. There is still a chance that it might become a rather successful addition for casual gamers who are not into choice-based RPG elements.

On the other hand, if the mode is not well integrated with the game, then the whole experience could feel like you are just watching a series of cutscenes, irrespective of what you do in the game.

There is a thin line between this mode’s success and failure. If Ubisoft can integrate it well, then it just might work in its favor. What do you think about this mode? Let us know in the comments below.
