Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a hot topic of discussion since its release, with several conflicting opinions about the game’s quality.
Many like it, others hate it, and a minority are criticising BioWare and EA for turning the Dragon Age series “woke” for some reason.
Nevertheless, some of the main points of criticism stem from bugs, glitches, and a lack of polish in some areas, something that’s thankfully being fixed with post-launch updates like the one we’re talking about today.
The second patch for the PC version of the game is now live, and fixes two problems plaguing many players’ games.
One such issue resets the settings of Rook when the player creates a new one, not game-breaking but annoying considering the customisation is one of the strongest parts of the game and something players have been having fun with.
The second issue is a crash that occurs during the Shader Compilation whenever you boot up the game. Thankfully, that’ll no longer be an issue for PC players.
That’s all this patch contains, though there will be more as time goes on, including fixes for the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game too.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s First Update Patch Notes Preview
Fixed an issue where some customizations were not applied to the Inquisitor correctly in one scene.
Fixed an issue where DLSS options could end up “grayed-out” on a 40-series Nvidia GPU. (PC only)
Fixed an issue that caused Companion Skill Points to reset.
Minor balance changes
Some crash mitigations
In other news, another point of criticism for the game comes from the artstyle used, which many claim to be a bit too cartoonish for their liking.
While I don’t hate it, I will say it’s not my cup of tea either so I can see why some may have preferred something more gritty or realistic.
Many are concerned that BioWare’s next game, Mass Effect 5, will adopt a similar artstyle but fortunately this rumour has been shut down by the game’s development team.
It’s unknown when Mass Effect 5 will drop, but it’ll be interesting to see if criticism for the game mirrors what we’ve seen for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
