There’s never a dull moment to be had if you’re a Grand Theft Auto fan.
Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings call didn’t, as some theorised, coincide with Rockstar Games dropping a new GTA VI trailer so it’s onto the next theory.
Get your face paints and red noses out, as we’re clowning again.
The latest idea is that GTA VI’s next reveal will happen during December’s Waning Gibbous which, if you don’t know, is a phase of the moon.
Essentially, the game’s first trailer also dropped during a Waning Gibbous so the idea is that history will repeat itself as a Waning Gibbous was featured in the latest GTA Online tease.
It’s a far-fetched theory, admittedly.
That aside, one former Rockstar Games developer – who spent several years working on GTA VI – recently surfaced to touch on the game’s realism, adding that it would “blow people away”.
You’d think that this kind of tease would delight fans, but apparently not.
The thing is, many just don’t believe GTA VI can live up to the hype – let alone exceed it.
“I have no doubts that this game will blow every other open world game out of the water – because that’s how Rockstar rolls – but you can’t be treating this game like it’s gonna be God’s gift to the world. It cannot possibly live up to that level of hype,” wrote one Reddit user.
“That said, I’d be happy to be proven wrong. Rockstar has yet to let me down, when it comes to their storytelling, world building, and attention to detail,” they continued.
“Regardless of their track record, people will still be disappointed. Believe it or not people out there never finished RDR2 because they found it boring,” added yourdragonkeeper.
“I don’t know if I’ll be blown away, but [I’m] certainly expecting an evolution of RDR2’s realism,” said Gavin_p.
It’s a tricky one, and GAMINGbible’s own Dan Lipscombe recently dove into what GTA VI’s unprecedented hype could mean for the game.
Personally, I air on the side of being optimistic without stretching to unreachable levels of hype.
I’m not looking for the greatest game of all time – simply a great game. And I’m pretty sure that’s something that Rockstar is capable of creating.
