Fans of Harry Potter and JK Rowling’s work have faced a serious split in their community for the first time. It’s all because of  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,  or rather because of the cast of the film. When it turned out that Johnny Depp was still cast in the role of Grindelwald , accused by Amber Heard of assault and domestic violence, all hell broke loose among fans of stories from the world of the young wizard . Warner Bros , which is producing the new series from the world of Potter , was flooded with a real flood of unfavorable opinions, and the actor himself was hit by a powerful wave of criticism. 

For a long time there was no answer from either side, but finally Rowling herself decided to put an end to fan fantasies and remind that everyone on the set of the second part of Newt Scamander’s adventures knows what they are doing:

When Johnny Depp was cast as Grindelwald, I thought he would be wonderful in this role. Unfortunately, while he was filming his cameo in the first film, unfortunate stories began to appear in the press and it was very concerning not only to me but also to those close to the film. Harry Potter fans have every right to have questions and concerns about the decision to continue working with Depp in this role. David Yates, who has been working on “Potter” for years, has already said that of course, we had our doubts and considered recasting the character. I understand that some may be confused and upset that it didn’t happen. The huge, supportive community that has grown around “Harry Potter” over the years has been one of the greatest joys of my life. For me, personally, not being able to talk openly about this situation with fans has been difficult, frustrating and at times painful. However, we have made the decision to protect the privacy of two people who have expressed a desire to move on with their lives. We have to respect that. Based on our understanding and agreement on the circumstances, the film crew and I have decided that not only are we happy with the current cast, but we are also really happy to have Johnny playing one of the leads. I fell in love with the first two scripts when I wrote them and I can’t wait for fans to see The Crimes of Grindelwald . I have accepted that there will be those who will not like our choice of actor to play the lead in the second film. However, the conscience of an individual is not subject to the judgment of the masses. In the fictional world and beyond, we all have to do what we think is right and good.
