Richard Goodall on 'America's Got Talent' 2024
America’s Got Talent Season 19 winner Richard Goodall recently gave an update about his life after taking home the million-dollar prize last year. Goodall revealed that he’s still working as a school janitor, although he takes time off to perform.

Richard Goodall Talks Life After Winning AGT

Goodall earned the Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum for his amazing AGT audition to “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. The singer went on to win the entire season, after performing songs such as “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” by Michael Bolton and “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor.

Recently, Goodall was a guest on the Tell Us About Yourself podcast, hosted by Chris Carrion. He shared that although he’s “always wanted to perform,” he’s never wanted “to be famous or be noticed,” adding that he’s more interested in “music and people” than fame.

“Music helps me forget about what is going on in my day to day life. Listening to music gives us a chance to take a breath,” Goodall said, acknowledging that winning AGT has been “life-altering, life-changing” for him.

However, Goodall chose to go back to work as a school janitor in Indiana after the show. He still takes time off from work to perform, saying, “If it’s something that you love and you’re passionate about, you have to make time.”

Goodall Was ‘Scared’ to Audition for the Show

Goodall admitted that he was “scared out of my wits” to audition for AGT, adding that it “takes cojones to walk across that stage and put yourself out there.” However, he said he felt “at home” once the music started and he began to perform.

He explained that he was by himself at the audition, because he didn’t have enough money to fly his then-fiancée out to California to be with him. Goodall had never been on a plane before, or traveled west of Missouri. He said there were “a lot of firsts” involved in that experience.

Goodall’s time on the show was special for a number of reasons, including the fact that he got married ahead of the finale. He and his wife Angie Vanoven tied the knot in Malibu, with members of his “AGT family” there to celebrate with them.
