The Matrix and John Wick star, and ‘internet boyfriend’, said to be worth US$380 million, made headlines last year when some of his stolen watches were recovered in Chile

Keanu Reeves – also known as the internet’s boyfriend – is a guy whose reputation precedes itself, thanks to his long-standing record of being down-to-earth, kind and generous, especially when it comes to fans and crew members.
As the star of several big-budget action films, from hits including Point Break and Speed in the 1990s that launched his career, to the celebrated Matrix trilogy and more recently the John Wick franchise, the Canadian actor has amassed a personal fortune of about US$380 million. But despite his wealth he keeps a fairly low profile, with no social media presence.
Last month, however, we had a rare glimpse into Reeves’ world, and the extravagant things he buys, when news broke that several of his luxury watches, stolen during a burglary in December 2023, had been recovered in an unexpected location: Chile.

Among the recovered items was a personalised Rolex Submariner, along with a few other timepieces police chose not to disclose. Naturally, this sparked some serious horological curiosity, prompting us to take a closer look at the luxury watches Keanu Reeves has been known to wear.

1. Rolex Submariner

This classic Rolex model landed Reeves in headlines in 2023, when he gave the four-member stunt team of John Wick: Chapter 4 matching Submariners, engraved with a personal message of thanks from the actor.

He also had one customised for himself, as part of what’s called the “John Wick Five” stunt team – and that piece was among the items stolen. The distinctive engraving made it easy to identify when it resurfaced south of the equator, linking it to Reeves and adding an unusual twist to the story.

Stainless steel with a black dial and bezel, this understated yet chic Submariner sells for about US$9,000. Of course, the personalised message from one of the world’s most beloved action stars adds untold value to an already special watch.

2. Carl F. Bucherer Manero AutoDate

A man of fine tastes and few words, hit man John Wick is often seen on screen wearing a watch by Carl F. Bucherer.

In one of the earliest scenes of the first film – now part of a billion-dollar franchise with three sequels – Reeves’ eponymous protagonist is shown sleeping beside his dog (famously and tragically not long for that fictional world), with a Manero AutoDate nearby. This clean, minimalist watch, crafted in steel with a white dial and dauphine hands, exudes understated elegance.

It’s a perfect complement to his portrayal of the stoic and stylish assassin and one he has continued to wear throughout the sequels. The Manero AutoDate has become so closely associated with the franchise that collectors now refer to it as “the John Wick”. Each is valued at about US$3,000.

3. Carl F. Bucherer Patravi TravelTec II GMT Chronograph

Reeves doesn’t need to be on screen to wear a Carl F. Bucherer, however. He’s been spotted wearing a Patravi TravelTec II in steel at the red-carpet premieres of John Wick films. That might have something to do with director Chad Stahelski, a long-time admirer and friend of the Swiss brand, who may hook Reeves up with the wrist piece of his choice for special occasions.

Featuring a triple time zone display and chronograph functions, the Patravi TravelTec II is a decidedly sporty model, a rugged yet sophisticated watch. With its advanced features and large design, it’s priced at around US$13,000.

Reeves also wore a limited-edition Patravi ScubaTec at the premiere of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum. A tough diving watch with a textile strap, designed for underwater exploration, it’s a luxury sports watch in keeping with the actor’s legacy of stunt-heavy films and physical prowess.

This particular model, reportedly one of only 50 ever produced, was created exclusively for the film’s cast and crew, with a special engraving on the back. A memento rich in sentimental value, it’s hard to estimate the value of this custom-engraved watch, though a normal ScubaTec retails for around US$7,200.

5. Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse

Reeves wore a stunning Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse in a shoot for Esquire magazine in 2021.

That timepiece had been crafted to mark the model’s 50th anniversary, its design drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek concept of the “golden ratio” – the so-called divine proportion that has influenced countless masterpieces in art and architecture.

True to its name, the watch features an elegant elliptic rose gold case, paired with a minimalist ebony black sunburst dial and rose gold hour markers. It’s priced at about US$38,000.
