Hit ABC show American Idol is facing backlash as fans threaten to boycott the show over incoming judge Carrie Underwood’s recent career move.
The star is set to perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration ceremony.
Underwood, who is replacing Katy Perry after eight seasons, will sing America the Beautiful moments before Trump is sworn in as president.
The announcement has sparked outrage on social media, with fans expressing their disappointment and anger.
One user wrote: “Imagine all the little girls and young women who idolize Carrie Underwood, and she comes out in support of a rapist.”
Another tweeted: “Carrie Underwood Jesus is about to take the wheel and drive your career right into the toilet.”
One fan vowed to cut ties altogether: “Carrie Underwood is performing at Trump’s inauguration so I’m blocking her on all apps and boycotting all her music.”
Meanwhile, others mocked the backlash.
