A new Formula One movie, co-produced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and starring Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt, will be released in June 2025.

Brad Pitt’s much-anticipated Formula One film is set to speed into cinemas next June, the sport’s top brass have confirmed.
The Hollywood production, which sees seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton in the role of co-producer, faced delays due to the US actors’ and writers’ strike.
However, F1 honchos are now gearing up for a grand release on June 25 next year, hoping the movie will ride the wave of success created by Netflix’s hit series Drive to Survive.
At 60, Pitt takes on the character of Sonny Hayes, a seasoned driver making a dramatic comeback to the F1 circuit after a lengthy hiatus.
In a thrilling showcase, Pitt took an adapted Formula Two car for a spin during the practice sessions at last year’s jam-packed British Grand Prix. He was joined by his on-screen protege Joshua Pierce, portrayed by British talent Damson Idris, as they took their places alongside the real-life F1 contenders before the start of the race.

An exclusive “11th team” garage, named APXGP, was even erected within the paddock for added realism.
Recent weeks have seen Pitt filming at Silverstone, with plans to capture more high-octane action at the upcoming race and throughout the current season.
Hamilton’s hands-on approach with the screenplay aims to inject a dose of genuine F1 thrill into the narrative.
“We want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about,” Hamilton expressed last year, highlighting the new management’s openness to such a project, unlike their predecessors a decade ago, who might not have viewed it as pivotal for the sport’s expansion.

“But we’ve already seen the great work and impact of the Netflix show, and this will take it to new heights beyond that.”
Pitt told Sky Sports: “Lewis was really intent that we respect the sport and show it for what it is. I had no idea what it takes to be a driver. They are amazing athletes and I have got so much respect for all of them.”
Apple has bought the rights to the movie with a budget said to be in the region of £125million ($140m).
Joseph Kosinski, the man behind Top Gun: Maverick, is directing the film, while Jerry Bruckheimer who also worked on the Tom Cruise blockbuster is listed as a producer.

In a statement, F1 said: “The movie is a landmark for the sport and cinema, filmed in real-time during grands prix around the world and involving the Formula One community, including all 10 teams, the drivers, the FIA and race promoters.
“The new feature film is set in the exhilarating and cinematic world of Formula One and will immerse audiences in the spectacle of the most popular annual sports series, celebrating the skill and heroism of the drivers while showcasing the incredible challenge of competition in Formula One.”
