Country music singer Carrie Underwood has given fans a glimpse of what she will be like when she sits on the judging panel of American Idol.

Underwood takes over from Katy Perry on the show, who has judged on seven seasons of the show.

The ‘Before He Cheats’ singer previously won season four of the show and is excited to return to the music search with hopes to bring her own experiences of auditioning to her new role as a judge.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour inside Resorts World Las Vegas, Underwood has revealed her unique qualities she’ll bring to being a judge on American Idol.

She explained: “I think I can be honest and constructive, but still kind. I think that’s the whole point ’cause people are coming in, and you know … it’s dreams.”

She added: “You’re a part of somebody’s story from that moment on. I think it’s important to be honest, but I think it’s also very important to be kind. Hopefully, I can marry all of those together.”

Underwood also expressed her excitement to have two country music stars on the panel, as she judges alongside Luke Bryant but thinks she can still bring her experience in other genres to the role. She said: “Well, I feel like I’ve been very blessed to obviously be so rooted in country music, but I’ve been able to be part of many other genres of music as well.

“I mean, I’ve got a song with Papa Roach right now. It’s a lot of fun. I like to think that I’m versatile, and hopefully when I listen to people come in and audition I can have any lense I need to put on as far as what kind of music I’m thinking.”

This isn’t the first time Underwood has gushed about bringing honesty to her judging style for American Idol.

When the Cowboy Casanova singer appeared on Good Morning America recently, she hinted at what fans should expect when it comes to her feedback style. She teased: “As you all may know I have a big problem. I can’t lie. I’ll be very honest, but I’ll be constructive and encouraging.”

“Well, it is 20 years since she auditioned in St. Louis for American Idol, and to have the first ever Idol alum on the panel has always been something that’s been interesting to me,” she gushed.

“She is our queen, she is our icon of American Idol.”

“We have been searching, you know, and obviously talking to Carrie for a little bit here. It has been a little over two months since the [season 22] finale, but these talks have been going on for a while and we’ve been really excited to make it all happen.”

“It’s a new era of the show and every new chapter of American Idol …. when we open up that first page, it is just as exciting as closing a chapter, and I cannot wait to embark on this journey with our first Idol alum with the panel,” Wolflick continued.
