ABC announced on Thursday that Underwood will headline Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest, closing out 2024 with a live medley of hits from Times Square.
“I have such fun memories of performing on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square in both 2007 and 2015, and I’m so excited to perform just before the ball drops again this year,” Underwood said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to celebrate 20 years since winning American Idol by joining Ryan as he hosts his 20th New Year’s Eve in Times Square.”
Underwood will also return to her American Idol roots on Sunday, March 9, when she debuts as the show’s newest judge on its Season 23 premiere. (See ABC’s full midseason schedule here.)

As previously reported, Lenny Kravitz, Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, Teddy Swims and Tinashe will also perform on ABC’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, which begins Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 8/7c. Rita Ora will co-host alongside Seacrest, while Dayanara Torres will host from Puerto Rico.
