Charlie Hunnam is taking a turn on the dark side.

The Sons of Anarchy actor, 44, was spotted stepping into the role of serial killer Ed Gein on the set of the third season of Ryan Murphy’s Monster.

In the photos, Hunnam transformed into Gein by wearing a red plaid jacket, a brown plaid shirt and trousers. He completed with a comb over hairstyle, which is reminiscent of the infamous murderer’s look in the 1950s.

PEOPLE reported in September that the Pacific Rim star was set to play Gein in the upcoming season of the hit series.

Murphy announced the news at the Los Angeles premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story that month.

According to Variety, Gein — who was from Wisconsin — became popular in the 1950s after he was found to have killed multiple people and dug up graves near his home. He then used the corpses to make household items and clothing.

The sighting comes following the success of season 2, which followed brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who killed their parents José and Kitty Menéndez in 1989.

The true crime anthology reenacts some of America’s high-profile murder stories.

Season 1 installment, DAHMER — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, chronicled the story of Jeffrey Dahmer (Evan Peters), the serial murderer who killed and dismembered seventeen males between 1978 and 1991.

The season — which also featured Niecey Nash as Glenda Cleveland, Dahmer’s neighbor who lived nearby — hit one billion view hours in the first 60 days after its release, which put it in the record books as only one of four Netflix shows to reach the milestone.

After the first season’s success, Netflix ordered two more installments of the show that was created by Murphy and Ian Brennan.
