Amber Heard stunned everyone when she announced on her social media that she welcomed a baby girl named Oonagh Paige Heard via surrogate recently. She’s stunned many people with her actions before, but this topped pretty much everything else.

Some fans aren’t buying into it, though. They think she’s using her new daughter as a way to get people to like her, while their loyalty to Johnny Depp gets stronger and stronger with each new development in their case against each other.

But the birth of Oonagh does make us think. Did the once happy couple ever think about having kids while they were married? Depp had his own children with Vanessa Paradis, but did he want more with his young wife?

Why Did Heard Decide To Have A Baby?

In Heard’s birth announcement, she said she decided to have a child about four years ago, which would have been about the time her divorce from Depp was finalized.

“I wanted to do it on my own terms,” Heard wrote on her Instagram. “I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way. I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib. A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this. My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”

Heard will, however, have to look back as she’s starting the beginning of the rest of her life because her legal troubles with Depp are far from over. People reports that there’s a trial in Depp’s defamation case against Heard, filed in the Virginia courts, left to come in April 2022. It was pushed back due to the pandemic.

It seems as if Heard must have welcomed Oonagh via surrogate as there was no evidence that Heard was pregnant, but there’s no word on who the father is. A source told Page Six that Heard was “besotted” with her daughter, that “she always knew she wanted to be a mom,” and that Oonagh’s arrival is “her greatest wish come true.”

She Wanted Kids As Soon As She Became A Stepmother

Undoubtedly, being a stepmother to Depp’s kids for a hot minute spawned thoughts of having her own kids one day.

“[They’re] the greatest gift,” Heard talked about her stepkids to Marie Claire after she married Depp. “It’s an honor. I feel new flavors that I didn’t know existed. New colors that I didn’t know existed have been added to my life. I’m so happy.”

Depp was open to having kids if that was what Heard wanted. “As far as having more kids, it’s easy for me – and Amber should have the opportunity to have kids if she wants,” Depp said at the 2014 Transcendence premiere. “Let’s face it, practicing for it is fun, and it’s all wonderful.”

In fact, at the time, Depp was willing to “make a hundred” children because of his love for kids. Which is something we can hear Depp saying. We didn’t expect to hear some of Depp’s other thoughts about having a baby with Heard.

Heard allegedly told her acting coach, Kristina Sexton, that Depp wanted her “barefoot and pregnant – and at home” during their marriage. The information came out when Sexton testified during Depp’s recent libel case against The Sun.

In her statement to the court, Sexton said that Heard told her that Depp wanted to start a family with Heard, but she allegedly denied Depp because he struggled with his addiction.

“Amber and I talked about his addictions: she really wanted to stay and help him get better. She told me that he really wanted them to have children, but she was concerned about having a child with someone who was an addict,” Sexton said.

“I remember her telling me that he wanted her ‘barefoot and pregnant – and at home’ and her saying, ‘I’m not going off the pill. I don’t want to have kids with an addict’. We had this conversation a number of times over the course of their relationship.”

Sexton concluded her statement by saying that she never saw Depp act violently towards Heard during their marriage. She did have conversations with Heard about the alleged abuse Depp was inflicting upon the Aquaman actress at the time, however.

We don’t know whether or not to believe Sexton’s comments, but it does seem as if Heard and Depp wanted children together…at least at the beginning of their marriage. That yearning quickly fizzled out and re-sparked once Heard found her freedom from her alleged abuser. Now she’s a mother, whether fans think she’s using the baby as a sympathy vote or not.
