The incident took place in 2016 and was explicitly stated in Cassie’s 2023 lawsuit against the mogul.

Sean “Diddy” Combs took to social media to address the surveillance footage from 2016 that shows him physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.

The 54-year-old posted a video on Instagram apologizing and stating that he “take[s] full responsibility” for the assault. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you got to do that,” Diddy said. “I was f*cked up. I hit rock bottom. I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”

He continued, “I went out and sought professional help, went to therapy and rehab. Asked God for his mercy and grace. I am so sorry. But I am committed to being a better man each and every day. I am not asking for forgiveness. I am truly sorry.”

The hotel footage is dated March 5, 2016 and was taken from the surveillance at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles. In the hallway footage, Diddy can be seen running after Cassie in the hallway before grabbing her by the back of the neck and slamming her to the ground. He kicks her twice as she’s laying on the ground and attempts to drag her, but instead picks up Cassie’s belongings, seemingly goes to his room and then returns to Cassie, who is holding a hotel phone. He then pushes her against a corner and throws something her way.

The footage lines up with the details from Cassie’s November 2023 lawsuit, where she accused of Diddy of rape and physical abuse. This specific assault was detailed in her suit and stated that she tried to leave him after he “became extremely intoxicated” and punched her, resulting in a black eye. She also accused him of paying the hotel $50,000 USD to keep the surveillance footage to ensure it doesn’t leak.

“The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light,” Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas H. Wigdor, told CNN.
