Imagine, if you will, becoming one of the biggest actors in the world and spending your free time in a band made up of your favorite musicians. This is the life that Johnny Depp gets to live, as he is a founding member of the Hollywood Vampires. Depp may be a movie star with a massive net worth and a unique love life, but he has always been a musician, and there was no way that he could pass up the chance to play with the band.

Made up of Depp, Alice Cooper, and Joe Perry, this group has an insane amount of talent, and they have even recruited some of the biggest rockers ever to make their music even better. For those that are unfamiliar with the band, it’s time to learn a thing or two about this supergroup.

Let’s dive in and take a look at Johnny Depp’s unique band!

The Band Was Formed By Depp, Alice Cooper, And Joe Perry

One of the unique things about the music industry is that the biggest rockers in the world tend to rub elbows and get to know one another. For the Hollywood Vampires, this would be the case, although Johnny Depp would throw his name into the ring and the band was off and running.

Supergroups are nothing new, as bands like Cream, the Traveling Wilburys, and Temple of the Dog all came long before the Hollywood Vampires. Nevertheless, this supergroup was formed by shock rock legend Alice Cooper, Aerosmith axe slinger Joe Perry, and actor Johnny Depp. While this may seem like an odd combination, it did not take long for the group to see their potential together.

It is reported that the band first got together back in 2015, and when they did, this was mainly to jam and play covers. Any person that has spent time in a band knows that covers are a staple of a young group. Even though this particular group included some truly famous rockers, they still started out the old fashioned way.

Their time together was spent getting a feel for the band as a whole, egos put aside and everything. Alice Cooper, in fact, would open up about the band toBillboard, shedding a light on their process.

He would say, “That’s a very odd thing about this. You’ve got three alpha males who are used to running the show, and all of a sudden, three guys are sitting there with zero arguments. The whole thing is, ‘OK, let’s try that.”

The band was humming along just fine, and as it turns out, their name has a unique origin to it.

The Band Is Named After A Legendary Drinking Club

Now that we have some context about the band’s formation, let’s take a look at its unique name. Interestingly, the name in use actually carries some fascinating history with it, making it a personal one for Alice Cooper.

The name Hollywood Vampires actually stems from an old drinking club that Alice Cooper used to be part of. What’s amazing about this is that the club itself featured some of the biggest names in the history of music.

Cooper would tell NME, “The original Hollywood Vampires was a drinking club, a last-man-standing kinda thing. You’d go over to the Rainbow Bar & Grill in Hollywood every night and there would be myself, Mickey Dolenz from The Monkees, [Elton John co-writer] Bernie Taupin, Keith Moon and Harry Nilsson. If John Lennon was in town, he’d always be hanging out with Harry, so he’d come by too.”

Talk about an incredibly talented group of musicians! Some of the biggest bands in history are represented in this unique group, and it’s cool to see Cooper put the name to use once again. The stories that the walls of those pubs could tell is probably on another level, and clearly, Cooper loved every single second of it.

Cool name aside, the Hollywood Vampires actually have some music under their belt, and much like the original group, their records are a star-studded affair.

They Have Two Albums With Plenty Of Guests

The Hollywood Vampires are an interesting band in many ways, and being a supergroup certainly comes with its perks. They have recorded two albums together, and they recruited some of the biggest rockers in history to make it happen.

According toBillboard, the band’s “…self-titled debut of mostly cover songs that featured multiple guest stars, including Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Slash and late horror movie icon Christopher Lee.”

Yes, you read that correctly. There are few people on the planet that can pull down names like this, further proving that the Hollywood Vampires are no ordinary band.

All in all, the band has released two albums, steadily building a following while bringing recognition to their music. They may have focused on playing covers at first, but their shift to original songs proved to be a positive change.

Johnny Depp can seemingly do it all, and now that you know a little bit about the Hollywood Vampires, be sure to give them a listen.
