Jodie Foster comes under online hate for her comments on superhero movies.
Jodie Foster has been subjected to intense internet hate for her views towards superhero movies in a recent interview. The Taxi Driver doesn’t seem to be a fan of the genre and defined the era of movies as a phase that has lasted too long. The remarks amidst the ongoing bad time for comic book movies have raised a complex internet debate.
What did Jodie Foster say about superhero movies?
Jodie Foster is one of the greatest actresses with iconic movies such as Taxi Driver, The Silence of the Lambs, The Accused, and Panic Room under her name. However, her take on the superhero media looks controversial. In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, when asked about the genre, the actress claimed that it’s just a phase that ran for too long and people will soon get sick of it.
Marvel and DC
“It’s a phase. It’s a phase that’s lasted a little too long for me, but it’s a phase, and I’ve seen so many different phases. Hopefully people will be sick of it soon. The good ones—like Iron Man, Black Panther, The Matrix—I marvel at those movies, and I’m swept up in the entertainment of it, but that’s not why I became an actor. And those movies don’t change my life. Hopefully there’ll be room for everything else.”
Even though she named a few movies like Iron Man and Black Panther as exceptions, her perspective was quite clear to the audience. Although the inclusion of The Matrix in the list of superhero movies and naming Black Panther as a good superhero movie is quite debatable, the more important point that was raised was the entertainment factor.
Many fans have admitted that they only watch superhero movies for entertainment. They don’t expect these movies to change their lives.
Jodie Foster’s comments divide the internet
Jodie Foster as Iris in Taxi Driver
There is a large section of fans who refused to agree with Jodie Foster’s statements. This is the faction of the audience who don’t expect superhero movies to change their lives. Some are also of the notion that not only superhero flicks but not any movie had been able to impact their life in any way.
We have collected a few tweets to show how the internet is disappointed in the veteran actress for her approach to superhero films.
She couldn’t be more wrong here. Sure there are some people who don’t enjoy superhero movies but there is a VERY LARGE following behind these movies still.
Superhero movies and comics have always been around and will ALWAYS be around

Then don’t watch them.
Don’t star in them.Their success doesn’t affect you😭

That’s all well and good, but the movies she’s been in haven’t changed my life either

Jodie Foster doesn’t even seem to understand what a “superhero movie” actually is, based on that last example
— Milky 🔻 (@MilkyWayGrump)
Movies change YOUR life Jodie, because you get paid millions to be in them. We pay $30 at the damned theater, to be entertained.
— Strickly Speakin’ (@SpiderStrick) stand how this has been a life changing few decades seeing the growth of the popularity, technology being able to portray what the pages can & (comic book) storytelling at this level. These films make money for a reason
— Cash Castro (@CashCastroTweet)
It is not the first time superhero movies have come under criticism from a significant celebrity. Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino have also commented negatively against Marvel and superhero movies earlier. However, everyone is entitled to have an opinion, and thus, we can do nothing but hope the upcoming superhero projects revive their magic again.
