There’s no denying that back in 2014, the ‘John Wick’ franchise breathed new life into Keanu Reeves’ career. But even before that, he was Hollywood’s favorite humble actor, and one of the most diverse of his time.

Still, ‘John Wick’ has largely defined Keanu’s contemporary career, and not always in the most positive way. However fans feel about his time as Wick, though, they have to admit one thing: he looks amazing on film.

Fans already know that Keanu Reeves has one particularly posh habit when it comes to his wardrobe. But they likely didn’t realize that John Wick has some specific style requirements, too. According to High Snobiety, there’s a lot happening between the seams on set.

It’s not that surprising, though. After all, Reeves became a model for Saint Laurent in 2019 after his “chic tailoring” caught the brand’s attention. The thing is, it’s not really Keanu who’s dressing John; it’s a costume designer named Luca Mosca.

That designer is behind every one of Reeves’ on-set looks, and there are a lot of them.

Unless they’re supremely eagle-eyed, fans may not have even noticed that John Wick is wearing different suits throughout the films. But Mosca explained that the suits track Wick’s character evolution. They also undergo changes so that Reeves can participate in fight scenes, which is a less glamorous though entirely necessary consideration.

Wick’s stylist explained that he began the ‘John Wick’ color palette with black, charcoal, and gray to reflect the low point that the character started out at in the first film. But then, the collars changed on John’s shirts, a detail that Mosca says he’s “obsessive about.”

Beyond the standard tailoring of collars and cuff lengths, the high-profile stylist also has to tend to other alterations. For example, he’s often tasked with tailoring suits to Keanu’s body doubles. While Mosca says that Keanu does most of his own stunts, sometimes a particularly talented double (guys with running, falling, or horse riding skills, for example) needs to don the John Wick suit.

To that end, the celeb stylist is always on hand and deeply involved behind the scenes. Mosca isn’t always behind the camera, though; he had a cameo in ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ as John’s actual tailor.

He deserves some recognition, after all, because he’s worked hard. In fact, he has to maintain a wardrobe of 50 suits “just for John,” he explained to High Snobiety. Beyond that, Mosca also designed costumes for the super-fit and film-ready Halle Berry, among other cast members.

He dedicates tons of time to research before even developing the outfits, but then time is spent adding and removing padding, patching Keanu up for stunts, and more. Truthfully, the costume department is an entire, essential side of ‘John Wick’ that most viewers probably weren’t even aware of!
