Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer might feel like a fever dream to fans in 2024, but in 2008 and 2009, they were a much-talked-about couple in Hollywood. It’s been 15 years since they split, but pals close to The Morning Show star claim that she still thinks about the 46-year-old singer from time to time.

Dating a musician was a refreshing aspect of their relationship, and for a solid reason, an insider alleged to Life & Style. “Jen’s affair with John Mayer was completely different than all of her past relationships, which were pretty much all with actors of varying levels of fame,” they said. The close friend noted that even her five-year marriage to Brad Pitt had “an aspect of competition in play between the two of them” because a career in the entertainment industry has so many ups and downs.

With the “Your Body Is a Wonderland” musician, “that kind of thing was never the case with Mayer.” They added, “When he and Jen had their thing, he was totally focused on making her happy, and meeting her needs.” His “endless, laser-like attention” (John, is that you talking?) was what possibly “spoiled” her relationship with Justin Theroux, who was “always chasing the next big career opportunity.”

The source believes that “a reunion with Mayer is possible somewhere down the line,” but we have to argue against that. In 2010, he blabbed to Playboy magazine that they had broken up while claiming that their eight-year age difference was too much. “I’ll always be sorry that it didn’t last,” the singer said to the media outlet, via British Marie Claire. “In some ways, I wish I could be with her. But I can’t change the fact that I need to be 32.” He even criticized her lack other technological savvy for being an issue in their relationship. “The brunt of her success came before TMZ and Twitter,” he continued. “I think she’s still hoping it goes back to 1998. She saw my involvement in technology as a courting distraction.”

Aniston took the high road in an interview with Vogue calling him “a wonderful guy.” She noted, while giving him a very generous pass for his big mouth, “He had to put that out there that he broke up with me. And especially because it’s me. It’s not just some girl he’s dating. I get it. We’re human. There was no malicious intent. I deeply, deeply care about him; we talk, we adore one another. And that’s where it is.” The Friends star sweetly let him avoid one controversy, so he should be forever grateful that his ex had his back.
