He once joked about the dismal state of his teeth at the height of his Hollywood fame in the 1990s.
Now significantly older, Johnny Depp was clearly none the wiser on Monday evening as he revealed a set of yellowing teeth that only Captain Jack Sparrow could be proud of.
The American star, 60, was evidently in high spirits as he greeted fans The Curzon Mayfair during the UK premiere of his French language romp Jeanne Du Barry – almost a year after it featured in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
But as he flashed a grin, Johnny’s nicotine stained teeth were on full display – after fans trolled him for poor dental hygiene while promoting the film in Cannes last May.
Johnny bragged about the dismal state of his teeth in a 1995 Premiere magazine interview that resurfaced last year, admitting he had ‘loads of cavities‘.

The remarks were unearthed by Page Six after Johnny’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, which prompted fans to troll him for his ‘rotten’ gnashers.
In the Premiere article, Johnny declared: ‘I’ve got loads of cavities. I had a root canal done eight years ago that’s unfinished. It’s like a rotten little stub.’
He insisted: ‘But I like it. It’s like when the Indians would make something beaded, they would always put imperfections on it.’
Johnny, who at the time of the interview was 31, indicated his uneven bottom teeth and said: ‘I’m proud of these.’
The Edward Scissorhands star added: ‘When I see people with perfect teeth, it drives me up the wall. I’d rather swallow a tick than have that!’
His interviewer marvelled that he managed not to have foul-smelling breath – this in spite of his dental condition plus the cigarettes and wine he had just indulged in.
Fans said he looked like Captain Jack Sparrow as he showed off his ‘rotten’ smile while launching his comeback at Cannes 2023.
The actor received a seven-minute standing ovation at the premiere of his film Jeanne du Barry after his blockbuster court trial saw his ex-wife Amber Heard ordered to pay him £6.4million in damages.

But fans couldn’t help but pick up on the actor’s smile and how his browning teeth showed visible signs of decay as he posed for photographers on the red carpet.
Johnny recently signed a £16million cologne deal with Dior, thanks to his striking looks and charm.
But unlike many Hollywood stars, the actor has shunned spending thousands on pearly white veneers or expensive composite bonding.
Johnny is known for transforming his smile depending on the roles he plays. For Pirates of the Caribbean he had extensive gold capping of his teeth.
He held onto the gold caps until filming closed on the third installment of the franchise.
Johnny has also been open about his battle with substance abuse and told the court during the defamation trial he’d tried ‘every kind of drug known to man’ by age 14.

Drug use can erode tooth enamel and expose the underlying dentine to decay-causing bacteria.
For the Jeanne Du Barry premiere, Johnny showed affection for his co-star Maiwenn.
The actor, who has been attempting a comeback with his first film in four years, sported a long grey coat with a black suit underneath for the premiere.
While he gripped onto Maiwenn affectionately, Johnny gave a very serious expression in many of the snaps, adopting a similarly serious stance.
