Johnny Depp has faced a lot of scandals in the last few years. There was his bankruptcy in 2016, his infamous defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, and his recent $10 million loan for the renovation of his castle.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is also known for his high-profile relationships like his previous engagement to Winona Ryder, his torrid romance with Kate Moss, and his 14-year commitment to Vanessa Paradis — mother of Jack and Lily-Rose Depp.

In 2001, Howard Stern asked Depp if he had ever cheated on his partners. The latter took a long pause before answering the big question.

The host also brought up the actor-turned-painter’s famous quote: “If you love two people at the same time, choose the second. Because if you really loved the first one, you wouldn’t have fallen for the second.”

What Did Howard Stern Say About Johnny Depp’s Amber Heard Trial?

Over a decade later, Stern called Depp a “narcissist” amid his legal dispute with Heard. The radio host alleged the Willy Wonka star of “overacting” on the stand and wanting the trial to be televised because narcissists “think they can talk their way out of everything.”

“On the narcissism scale, I think Johnny Depp is a huge narcissist,” said Stern, “and what I mean by that is, he figured ‘I’ll put this on TV. And because I’m so persuasive and I’m so smart, and I’m such a wonderful guy.'” He added that having cameras in the courtroom didn’t work in Depp’s favor.

“But that’s what narcissists do: ‘I will charm the pants off of America at the trial,'” he continued. “No you won’t. This will not go well. It’s not going well for you, it’s not going well for her. It’s not going well for anybody. You sound like two battling children. It’s just coming off really badly.”

Speaking about Depp’s behavior throughout the trial, Stern said: “I’ll play you some clips from the Johnny Depp trial. If he isn’t acting — I mean, he’s so overacting because he’s writing his own material as he goes along. You know, I gotta tell you, he’s wrong. He shouldn’t be putting this on TV in any shape.”

Has Johnny Depp Cheated In His Relationships?

During the phone interview with Stern, Depp was residing in France with Paradis and then-two-year-old, Lily-Rose. He told the host that he was “not officially” married but pretty much settled down with the French actress. As usual, the broadcaster went on to interrogate the 21Jump Street alum about his faithfulness in relationships.

“You’re problem is this, you’re so friggin’ good-looking,” Stern said. His co-host, Robin Quivers noted: “Remember poor Kate Moss, she almost did herself in when he left.” The former added that “no girl has ever tried to kill herself over me,” before telling Depp: “There’s no way you could ever be married because you just have too many opportunities.”

The Transcendence star laughed as Quivers said that he “owes it to the women” to stay available. Stern then asked, referring to Paul McCartney remarrying after his first wife’s death: “Could you ever be satisfied with one woman like that?” Depp went silent for a while, prompting the host to ask, “Hello, Johnny?”

“I’m here, I’m here… just pondering it,” the movie star responded. After the question was repeated, he answered, “Yeah.” Stern quickly replied, “That’s not true.” Depp explained, “I’m no cheater,” before citing his quote about leaving the relationship for someone else instead of juggling two at once.

After being shipped with his lawyer, Camille Vasquez during his defamation trial in 2022, Depp started dating Joelle Rich — his attorney from the previous defamation trial he had lost in the UK in 2020. Rich reportedly attended a portion of her “non-exclusive” beau’s US trial.

But in April 2023, a source told People that Depp “has been dating” but was still single. “He has been focused on work. As soon as his tour ended, he jumped into filming Jeanne Du Barry,” said the insider. “Filming was challenging, but Johnny is excited about the comeback.”

“He thinks it’s perfect that this historical drama will open at Cannes,” they added. “Johnny has been living in Europe since the trial. He has been dating, but doesn’t have a girlfriend.” Meanwhile, his ex-wife, Heard is currently starting a new life in Spain. “She has been living in Spain, where she gets more privacy,” a source said.

“The trial was beyond stressful for her and she just wanted to start fresh out of the country,” they continued. “She is excited about working and filming again. She was exhausted and disappointed about the trial. She felt she was mistreated. This is all behind her now, though. She has new energy and is focused on things that she loves.”
