In the course of life, one may venture through many fulfilling relationships that, unfortunately, do not have the glamorized fairytale ending as we see so frequently upon the silver screen. This was indeed the case for the old-time lovers Johnny Depp and his first wife Lori Anne Allison, whose romantic story unfolded in a time when the spotlight was not yet glistening on Johnny.
Bittersweet Young Love Between Lori Anne Allison and Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp dropped out of high school to pursue a career in both acting and music back in the 80s. His first band was called The Kids, and it seems that rock music posed a true calling for Johnny as he recently reunited with his current band, Hollywood Vampires.
Young Johnny met Lorie Anne Allison through The Kids, as she was the band’s bassist’s sister! They saw each other every day, and despite Lori being older by 5 years, they committed to marriage. They couple decided to get married 2 years into their relationship. In December 1983, the young lovers said ‘I do’ in South Florida. It seems that the riveting thrall of young love followed by a shared passion for music illuminated their hearts for one another completely. They moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue their respective, similar careers.
Johnny Depp is an iconic actor, well-known for his acclaimed performances in Pirates of the Caribbean franchise alongside many unique Tim Burton movies. He is a multi-faceted talent, but his acting career began with his spark with Lori.
Lori, after facing a terrible incident that impacted her hearing in her left ear, ditched the old dream of becoming a music producer and turned to a career in make-up, to which she quickly became a leading artist. She made many well-known connections to high-end celebrities, and introduced Johnny Depp to Nicolas Cage.
Cage inspired Johnny, told him that he has the starry nature to become an excellent actor. Cage landed Johnny an audition for A Nightmare On Elm Street, to which he was successful in!
“I got the job. I was stupefied. They paid me all that money for a week. It was luck, an accident. I did it purely to pay the rent. I was literally filling out job applications at the same time, any kind of job … Nic Cage said, ‘You should try being an actor. Maybe you are one and don’t know it.’ I began acting, and I thought, well, this is an interesting road; maybe I should keep traveling on it.” – Johnny Depp in an interview with Playboy.
The movie was released on November 9, 1984, and was extremely successful, amassing over $57 million worldwide.
The couple, despite their bittersweet romantic end, have found peace in their friendship. In a 2015 interview, she praised his talent and ability as an actor and guitarist.
” Well, we all know he’s a talented actor and can pull off the pirate thing like nobody’s business , But he’s also an extremely talented guitar player and started in South Florida playing the local Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale club circuit.” – Lori Anne Allison in a 2015 interview with Miami Herald
The pair divorced as a result of having ‘irreconcilable’ differences in their marriage, but remained friends. Lori is still known as “Lori Depp” to this day, so it seems the love has never faded.
From Music To Make-up, Here’s What Lori Is Doing Now
Lori Anne Allison has always been an enthusiast for the aesthetic and art-form that is makeup! In past interviews she detailed how in her childhood, she would go all out in stylizing her little dolls. She cut their hair and gave them unique new hairstyles, and drew on facial features at the age of 11.
She worked on-set for various movies as a make-up artist, including Midnight Heat, Secret Lies, Life Is a Banquet and Matters of Consequence.
In 2015, Lori took up an entrepreneur route for her life. She created a lipgloss brand called Serendipity, to which she continues to run today. She is currently 64 years old, and remains a talented artist in the field of make-up.
She most recently posted a picture of her picnic with American musician, Sheryl Crow.
Lori Defended Johnny Depp In His Ordeal With Amber Heard
The defamation case, despite coming to a close, does not mean the feud between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife, Amber Heard, isn’t anywhere near over. With unsealed documents coming to light, Heard filing for bankruptcy and public opinion continually flooding social media networks, Depp’s reputation continues to grovel through harsh comments and accusations.
However, whilst the televised case was live and even now, women who have dated Johnny Depp have spoken up in his favor, clarifying they did not think he would ever harm anyone. This is the case with Lori Anne Allison, who told TMZ that Johnny is a “soft person” who could never hurt anyone.
