Julia Roberts Revealed the Most Potent Drug She Ever Tried

While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, actress Julia Roberts joined the fun and readily answered questions for the ‘Plead the Fifth’ segment. She was asked about the hardest drug she had ever tried.

At first, the Notting Hill star hesitated to respond, but she eventually said, “Mushrooms.” She was later asked if the substance brought a positive feeling to her, and Roberts replied in the affirmative. “Yeah, it was nice. Not gonna lie. Kids, don’t try it at home!” she warned on television.

The conversation about the drug was short and sweet, and the actress no longer tackled why she attempted to try it. For those who aren’t familiar, magic mushrooms are psychedelic drugs that affect the senses and alter a person’s mind, emotions, and even perception of time.

As Roberts mentioned, she had a pretty good experience with it, but anything excess is always bad for the health. It is also highly discouraged to use without a doctor’s prescription. Ingesting large amounts of it may lead to hallucinations and other complications.

Throughout her career, Roberts has been accused of drug abuse, something that she had denied in the past. In fact, the Pretty Woman star has an idea of why people assume she’s an addict. In a 1991 interview via Entertainment Weekly, she argued:

This started, I can only assume, because I was so thin. And it’s just absurd, you know. I don’t know how anybody who would do drugs could function.

She further reiterated that she had never done drugs at the time, and she’s fine if people think she’s boring. “I’ve got clear skin and clean arms, and I’m just thin. Period. The end. Quit picking on me,” she stated. It seems like the times have changed so much since her statement after she admitted on television that the mushrooms did her good.

Julia Roberts isn’t the only one in her family who was linked to drug abuse. Although she claimed she was never addicted to it, her brother Eric Roberts unfortunately was. Because of this, he lost custody of his daughter, the actress Emma Roberts.

His relationship with Julia crumbled after he lost control of himself. In his memoir, Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far, he confessed to not being surprised if the Steel Magnolias star suffered PTSD because of his dangerous presence. He hopes his sister will accept the public apology he wrote in the book.
