Kate Winslet had an emotional reaction to Leonardo DiCaprio’s “polished” Oscars speech.
Seeing a major star win an award is great, but fans also love the reactions that come with it from other actors, which can be very telling.
In truth, Leonardo DiCaprio can do no wrong. His Oscar-winning speech was flawless, while he also had the best reaction to Joaquin Phoenix’s SAG Awards call out.
In the following, we’re turning the clock back to the 2016 Oscars. It proved to be a pivotal moment in Leo’s career as he finally took home the award for Best Actor. We’ll reveal how it all went down, and why fans were talking about Kate Winslet’s reaction to Leo’s Oscar win.
Let’s get started.
DiCaprio Finally Winning An Oscar For Best Actor
Back in 2016 at the 88th Oscars, Leonardo DiCaprio finally took home the top prize for Best Actor after years of coming in as the runner-up.
DiCaprio received a massive ovation from the audience. However, it was during his speech that fans witnessed the best reaction, and it was from none other than Kate Winslet. The Titanic star was genuinely emotional as DiCaprio not only took home the prize, but also had a captivating speech.
Winslet’s reaction can be seen in the video below around the 3:50 mark.
As expected, fans had a lot to say about Winslet’s reaction.
“Leo and Kates’ friendship made me realize that you can still be soulmates without having a “romantic” relationship.”
Other fans were thinking back to their work on Titanic.
“I remember Titanic was my ultimate guilty pleasure back when it came out. As a 13 year old boy in 97, you were not allowed by your peers to like that movie. Gawd, must have watched it 50 times the first year it was out on VHS,” a fan wrote.
A great moment for the duo in what turned out to be a great moment in the Oscars’ history.
Fans Felt As Though Leonardo DiCaprio Had Rehearsed His “Polished” Oscar Speech For Several Years
DiCaprio’s Oscar win had more than 54 million views on YouTube, along with over 39K comments. Hilariously, the most liked comment of the clip points out that Leo’s speech was pretty flawless, and likely something he rehearsed a couple of times over the years.
The fan wrote, “His speech was so fluent like he has prepared for 22 years.”
During his speech, DiCaprio used the moment to speak out on climate change. He said, “Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It’s the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
DiCaprio continued, “We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this. For our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed. I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted.”
Kate Winslet Revealed Her Chemistry With Leonardo DiCaprio “Clicked Immediately”
Kate Winslet described her time with Leonard DiCaprio on Titanic as “Magnetic.” During a conversation with ET, Winslet admitted that it wasn’t an adjustment on her part to perform with Leo, they instantly connected during the iconic film.
“Once I started working with Leo, we were able to kind of find our own rhythm. And it’s amazing to kind of look back and think about it all over again.”
She continues, “He was this kind of mess of long, skinny, uncoordinated limbs. And he was just very free with himself, and he had this effervescent energy that was really magnetic,” she continued. “And I remember thinking, ‘Oh, this is gonna be fun. We’re definitely gonna get along.’ And we just really did. We just really did.”
Kate would go on to admit that their friendship is still going strong today.
“We’ll always just make that call right away. There’s no like, ‘Hang on, I’ll call you tomorrow.’ It’s instant. And that’s actually really something…if you think about it, in the world that we live in now, to have friendships that bind you, and that shared history, it’s really something.”
Fans are hoping to see the duo reunited again on the big-screen. Nonetheless, it is great to see how close the two remain all these years later.
