Kate Winslet had a recent reunion with one of her Titanic cast members.
The Mare of Easttown star, 49, revealed during the latest episode of The Graham Norton Show that she ran into the cast member during a recording session at London’s Abbey Road studio for the score of her drama film Lee, in which she worked as both an actress and a producer.
“When we were there, I was looking through the glass into the stage where all the musicians are — [a] huge, 120-piece orchestra — and I’m looking at this violinist and I thought, ‘I know that face,’ ” she recalled.
“And then the day goes on and a few of the musicians start going, ‘It’s [him].’ And they sort of point at him,” Winslet added, mimicking the gesture.

Winslet said she tried to think of where she had seen the violinist before, and even questioned whether she was “related” to him. She said she eventually learned their connection when she went down to the orchestra at the end of the day to talk with him.
“So I went in and he went, ‘Kate, it’s me.’ And you know when the Titanic is going down and the violinist stands up and he goes, ‘Come on, lads,’ and he starts playing. It was that guy!” Winslet shared, referring to actor and musician Jonathan Evans-Jones, who played Wallace Hartley in the 1997 film.
“I was like, ‘It’s you!’ ” she continued. “It was amazing!”

Winslet described the chance reunion with Evans-Jones as “wonderful,” and noted that she has had several encounters with other people she’s worked with in the past and enjoys reconnecting with them every time.
“[We’ve] had so many moments like that in the film, where people I’ve either worked with before or known for a long time, kind of grown up in the industry with, they’ve just showed up for me and it was incredible,” she said.
Winslet — who starred in Titanic as Rose Dewitt Bukater alongside Leonardo DiCaprio — has spoken fondly of the James Cameron-directed film over the years. She has even weighed in on a controversial scene which has had fans questioning whether DiCaprio’s character Jack Dawson could have fit on top of a door she was also on as the boat was sinking.
When asked if there was “room on the door” for Jack, the Revolutionary Road actress replied, “I thought, ‘He’s busting out the Titanic question and next he’s gonna ask me about the door.’ I absolutely knew it.”
“But, you know, what I will say that’s really interesting is people keep referring to it as a door. It actually wasn’t even a door,” Winslet explained on Australian talk show The Project earlier this month. “It’s a piece of bannister, like stairway or something, that had broken off.”
“Who knows if [Jack] could’ve [fit] on there or not. Honestly, I don’t have any insights here that anyone else hasn’t already tried to figure out,” she added.
