In a few days, Katy Perry might collect a new hit on a handful of Billboard charts. The singer’s latest single “Woman’s World” was released only a few days ago, and it will likely land on at least a tally or two when the rankings are refreshed soon.
Ahead of that potential win, Perry returns to a Billboard list with one of her most beloved tracks. The tune brings her back to a chart that she doesn’t know very well, though with another appearance to her credit, the pop icon is improving her standing on the roster.
“Firework” debuts on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week. The electro-pop single explodes onto Billboard’s TikTok-focused chart at No. 16.
Perry is one of many musicians who only claim one or two hits on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, despite being famous and hugely successful elsewhere. Billboard introduced the ranking just last year, so many well-known figures are playing catch-up. The tally ranks the most popular songs on the social media app, using a methodology that features data like video views, user engagement, and creations that include a specific tune.
Perry instantly doubles her total number of hits on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week, as “Firework” marks her second career placement on the tally. Last year, “Wide Awake” climbed to No. 14, and it spent two frames on the roster.
“Firework” became popular again around the Fourth of July holiday. TikTok users returned to the cut as they celebrated America’s birthday, using the tune in huge numbers–especially when compared to its popularity the week prior.
Perry released “Firework” as a single from her album Teenage Dream back in 2010. The tune soared to No. 1 on the Hot 100, becoming the third leader on the chart from that full-length. It has since gone on to earn a diamond certification, and it still ranks as one of the singer’s most popular cuts.
