Although little under two decades have passed, Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine might finally be returning to the big screen! In November 2012, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro signed a deal to create a Justice League Dark film centered around DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. In November 2020, actor Peter Stormare hinted at a sequel being “in the works” via an Instagram post. However, neither Warner Bros. representatives nor Reeves immediately confirmed this.

Then, back in 2023, Francis Lawrence confirmed that he was working on some ideas for the iconic movie with Keanu Reeves but every time they would come up with something concrete the regime at DC studio would change.

The latest update comes to us from Reeves’ latest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Reeves was reminded that he claimed several years ago that he would like to play Constantine again, and since then several major headlines indicate that the movie is pretty much greenlit and ready to be made.

Reeves explained the current situation with the movie, and while it’s hopeful it’s still complicated:

The no’s started to become a maybe which became a kind of yes. Which became maybe go hire a writer and pay a writer and right now we’re waiting on a script.

Confirmation that Reeves is waiting for the script started pulling questions about whether the upcoming movie will be part of the Elseworlds label like ‘The Batman’ or part of the mainline DCU helmed by James Gunn, perhaps connected to DCU’s ‘Swamp Thing.’

In any case, fans are extremely excited to see these plans come to fruition:
