Keanu Reeves keeps his relationship with artist Alexandra Grant private, with the couple rarely making public appearances together. But in a new interview with People, Grant opened up about what it’s like to date the beloved actor.
The 50-year-old attended the Los Angeles Beverly Arts Icon Awards solo, where she was asked on the red carpet if it’s harder or easier to attend events without her famous other half.
She gave a candid answer, noting, “The good news about falling in love as an adult is that I had built my career by the time that my relationship had begun.”
“I feel very confident in the relationship on the red carpet. I feel confident on it alone,” she added. “It’s interdependent and independent in the best ways.”
Grant also shared what it’s like to be in a relationship with a fellow creative, praising her dynamic with the John Wick star.
“What I love about Keanu and our exchange is that we’re pushing each other to build new roads,” she said. “Seeing the other person’s problem-solving is inspiring, like, ‘Oh, well, okay, this one, that’s a cul-de-sac. How do I try this other thing?'”
She continued, “He’s such an inspiration to me. He’s so creative, he’s so kind. He works so hard.”
The painter and sculptor also admitted that her work has evolved since she started dating her longtime friend-turned-partner.
“I had a studio visit a few years ago, and this very kind, very high-level person said, ‘I can see that your work has gotten happier,'” she said. “That’s real. We’re all human beings. We’re animals. We’re expressing from where we are and certainly feeling happier. I think the work is happier.”
The pair first met in 2009 and became friends then, but didn’t begin dating until nearly a decade later. Though they confirmed they were a couple in 2019, a source told US Weekly that they started dating in 2017.
