Keanu Reeves has been one of the most recognizable names in Hollywood for many years now, specifically since he starred in ‘The Matrix’ by the Wachowskis. In addition, and beyond other great movies in which he has appeared throughout his career, today he is considered one of the biggest actors in action cinema thanks to the ‘John Wick’ saga, also being one of the most beloved performers in the industry thanks to his humility and camaraderie with his professional colleagues and fans. However, his name could have been very different, thanks to some agents he had in the beginning who thought that Keanu Reeves didn’t sound cool enough for Hollywood.
The most dangerous bullet that John Wick dodged: Chuck Spadina
This is what Keanu Reeves himself explained during the promotion of ‘Matrix Resurrections’ in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he revealed that the agents he had in his early days as a Hollywood actor tried to change his name: “I was 20 years old, I had my first car and I wanted to make movies, so I went to Hollywood. I got there and they told me: ‘We want you to change your name because it is very exotic’”, explained the famous actor to the disbelief of the presenter.
“Is Keanu Reeves not a hireable name?” Fallon asks with a laugh. “I won’t talk about that,” Reeves responds, to which he adds: “They did it the first day”, in reference to the need to change the name. “I proposed Chuck Spadina to them and they said no. What’s wrong with Chuck Spadina? Isn’t it going in the direction you want?” he asked himself at that moment.
Reeves continued explaining the hilarious situation to Fallon: “I kept thinking, ‘Didn’t you like that one?’Well, how about Templeton Page-Taylor?” Luckily, both of his proposals were rejected and he was finally left with his real name, although without his middle name, which is Charles.
“Chuck Spadina is the best thing I have ever heard in my entire life,” Fallon adds with a laugh. “I want to see a movie…”, to which Reeves interrupts the presenter saying: “You have a certain Chuck Spadina air”, causing laughter among the public and Fallon himself.
