Keanu Reeves was born in Beirut to Patricia Taylor, who was a costume designer and performer at that time, and Samuel Nowlin Reeves Jr., a Hawaiian geologist who was stationed in Lebanon.

But his parents divorced pretty early on and his father pretty much abandoned the entire family by the time he was three.

With his father out of the picture, Reeves’ mother made sure the family was provided for to the best of her capacity and moved them thrice, first to Sydney, then to New York, and finally Toronto, while he was growing up.

Keanu Reeves had a difficult time adjusting as he changed schools so often. Plus, his mother married three more times over the years and got divorced pretty quickly after each one.

He decided at the age of 15 that he was going to pursue a career in acting. His mother was very supportive of his decision.

Keanu Reeves did not purchase a home until he was 40 years old. He was comfortable living in hotels and short-term rentals.

But he made sure to purchase a house for his mother and sisters before he bought one for himself. Which further highlights his humility and concern for his aging mother and family.

In fact, when his sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia in 1991, even though he had four movies coming out that year, he made sure to be by her side as she underwent cancer treatment.

“When [Kim] was in the hospital, he was there with her all the time, sitting at her bedside, holding her hand,” an insider told People magazine.

Thankfully, Kim recovered, and her cancer went into remission (in 1999). But Keanu was so affected by his sister’s ordeal that he donated 70% of his The Matrix earnings to hospitals that treat leukemia.

Keanu Reeves Has Brought His Family To Many Red Carpet Events

Keanu Reeves is well-known for showing up solo to red carpet events. And more times than not, when he does bring a plus-one, it’s usually a friend, colleague, or family and not a romantic interest.

Nevertheless, when Reeves brought Patricia Taylor, his mom, to the Oscars in 2020, a lot of people thought he had brought his girlfriend Alexandra Grant along with him (she has gray hair as well).

But Reeves corrected them quickly, after which people couldn’t stop gushing about how adorable it was that he brought his mom along with him.

The pair were dressed impeccably, with Reeves in a black tuxedo and Patricia Taylor in a white Dolce & Gabbana suit.

Reeves has also brought his sisters along with him to red carpet events. Like the premiere of The Matrix in 1999, where he was accompanied by his sister Kim and half-sister Karina Miller.

And there was that one time when he was Karina’s plus-one at the premiere of Semper Pi because she was one of the producers of the movie.

His Mom Is Very Happy About His Relationship With Alexandra Grant

Keanu Reeves has never married, but it is known that he used to think of his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Syme as his soulmate and was crushed when the two split up after their daughter, Ava, was stillborn. Syme died soon after in a fatal car crash.

“Keanu was so traumatized… that there were times when he couldn’t get out of bed in the morning,” a source told Life & Style.

So now that he is finally in a long-term relationship with Alexandra Grant, his mom is very happy for him.

“[Patricia’s] seen a huge change in Keanu since [he] started dating [Alexandra]… He’s more positive about life,” an insider told Closer Weekly. “Seeing her son so happy makes her happy!”

The source added that when Patricia Taylor met Alexandra Grant, the two took to each other right away.

“They share a ton in common, including their passion for the arts.”

The three of them have been close ever since, and Keanu and Alexandra often meet up with Patricia for lunch and dinner.
