Keanu Reeves added a surprise award to his collection on Saturday, receiving San Diego Comic-Con’s Inkpot Award in an impromptu ceremony that took place during the convention’s BRZRKR panel.

Toward the end of the panel, a Comic-Con representative appeared with an Inkpot Award statue, which he presented to Reeves. “Honestly, if it were just my choice, I would have given it to you just for the Matrix,” the representative began, which promoted Reeves to interject with, “That was [Lana and Lilly Wachowski].”

The representative continued, “You helped tell that story… this award is for those who have contributed to popular art and pop culture… and no one would argue that have contributed in not just movies and television, but books and comics too.”

Reeves accepted the award amid a standing ovation from the audience and delivered a short speech to express his gratitude. “In giving me this award you’re also giving recognition for everyone here… I’ve been really fortunate to work with some incredible artists, and tell some incredible stories, [BRZRKR] is one of them. So thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Comic-Con has given out the Inkpot Award every year since 1974. The 2023 winners included Felicia Day and famed manga artist Junji Ito.
