Leonardo DiCaprio is distancing himself from Margot Robbie despite their friendly past, according to a source.

DiCaprio, 49, and Robbie, 33, have worked on several projects together, including “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013 and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in 2019. It was DiCaprio who discovered Robbie when she auditioned for her role in the comedy-thriller film where they first worked together. Robbie improvised in her audition and went further by slapping DiCaprio, and she believed the ad-lib secured her the role. However, due to the success of “Barbie,” Leonardo allegedly felt they were already in direct competition.

“Margot went from being Leo’s discovery and prodigy 10 years ago in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street ‘to being his biggest direct competition in 2023 and the irony isn’t lost on him,” an unnamed source told Life & Style. “As great as ‘Barbie’ has been for the whole industry with getting people back to movie theaters, that’s not the kind of movie Leo likes to make. He thought it was massively overrated.”

DiCaprio starred in Martin Scorsese’s 2023 crime thriller “Killers of the Flower Moon.” However, the “Titanic” actor was allegedly not pleased that more were interested in asking him about Robbie’s “Barbie.”

“It was especially frustrating after the years of work [they] put into the movie, which got buried and nothing near the credit [Leo] felt it deserved,” the source continued. “So it’s annoying that people are constantly asking him about ‘Barbie.'”

Additionally, Robbie and DiCaprio’s movies competed during the awards season, which reportedly was “something Leo never envisioned while he was fighting to get this movie made.”

“It’s his worst nightmare that Margot, of all people, is behind it,” the tipster claimed.

Robbie and DiCaprio had both expressed admiration for each other in the past.

“On ‘Wolf of Wall Street,’ seeing Margot come in and read that [water-throwing] scene with me, I just knew I was witnessing a dynamic presence in cinema that was about to be,” Leo admitted on the Australian TV show “The Sunday Project” when they promoted their reunion movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” “Scorcese and myself were blown away by how much she gave back to the scene, fought back. And we both immediately knew she was going to have an incredible career.”

Meanwhile, Robbie has the same admiration for DiCaprio. She even said working with the “Don’t Look Up” actor was a “dream come true.”

“Working with Leo challenged me every single second-the challenge just to keep up with him pushed me and got my acting to a level it’s never been, which is incredibly satisfying,” Robbie told E! News.

“He’s always been my favorite actor. Both he and Marty [Martin Scorcese] have such massive presences when you’re around them-they’re unstoppable, like this force that keeps moving; they have so much dimension, it sometimes seems impossible to keep up with them.”
