Ricky Gervais’ Oscar jokes were taken differently by the celebs on-hand, but Leonardo DiCaprio was praised for his reaction.
He’s the biggest star in Hollywood and as it turns out, Leonardo DiCaprio also has a sense of humor. We’ve seen that on display several times before in the past during candid interviews. One moment took place alongside Brad Pitt when the actor detailed his experience alongside Charlie Sheen. DiCaprio couldn’t help but to laugh at his close friend.
DiCaprio also struggled to keep it together after Jonah Hill brought in a fart machine during a Don’t Look Up interview featuring the main cast.
In the following, we’re going to take a closer at Ricky Gervais and his stint hosting the Oscars. He took aim at several celebs, some took it well, while others clearly didn’t. Let’s take a closer look at how DiCaprio got roasted, and his reaction to it.
Ricky Gervais Trolled The Oscars About Not Being Invited Back After His Controversial Hosting Appearance
Via: YoutubeRicky Gervais’ final stint hosting the Oscars was a memorable one. Some took exception to his harsh jokes, while others like Dwayne Johnson embraced them and praised Gervais on Twitter for it.
However, as expected, Gervais wasn’t invited back to the Oscars following his controversial words while hosting. Gervais didn’t let this fly under the radar. He sarcastically took to Twitter.
During his experience roasting celebs, it is clear that some can take jokes, while others aren’t as appreciative (we’re looking at you Tom Hanks). Although his joke for Leonardo DiCaprio might’ve came across as harsh for some, the actor reacted in the perfect way. While others, not so much…
Ricky Gervais Took Aim At Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dating History, But The Actor Was Able To Handle The Joke With Class
Ricky Gervais went on to state that the actors that take a joke positively usually get the best reaction from fans. The opposite holds true for the portion that look upset. Gervais revealed, “We even let people be privileged as long as they say, ‘I know I’m privileged but I’m nothing really,’ we don’t like people to go ‘Oh I deserve it, how dare you talk to me like that.”
In fact, Tom Hanks was angry at a joke made about Tim Allen, and he went off-script while presenting an award, taking a shot at the former host.
“We remember when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian – neither of which he is now.”
As for Leonardo DiCaprio, he didn’t play the revenge card and instead, he simply laughed at the joke that teased the actor about being into younger women. Gervais revealed that the actor was adored by fans that much more for the moment.
“When Leonardo DiCaprio laughed, people loved him for it. I think people who laugh at a joke, they get a round of applause because people go, ‘Oh that’s good, they can take it,’ we don’t want people to be above it.”
The most liked comment under the video received nearly 6K likes, and the person praised DiCaprio for how he took the joke.
“At least Leo can take a joke.”
Other fans mention that the joke aged nicely given Leo’s dating history in the years that followed…
Ricky Gervais Called Chris Rock’s Oscar Joke ‘Tame’ Compared To What He Would’ve Said
Via: InstarFollowing the Chris Rock and Will Smith incident at the Oscars, Ricky Gervais started to trend on Twitter for obvious reasons given his harsh history with roasting actors and actresses.
Everyone wanted to know how Gervais felt about the moment and as expected, the actor found the Chris Rock joke to be extremely tame.
“That joke that Will Smith slapped someone for was the lamest, sweetest joke in the world. No disrespect to Chris Rock, it wasn’t an insult. And she rolled her eyes and that’s it,” he says with Cinema Blend.
Gervais went on to discuss how he trended for the next two days because of the moment.
“I was trending for two days and I wasn’t even there. And I had a gig that night, a new material night. So I had to acknowledge it. And I walked out on stage, ‘I’ve got no Will Smith material.’ And it got a big laugh, just because they were thinking it. It was trending on Twitter ‘What would happen if Ricky was hosting it?’ And I said ‘Nothing because I wouldn’t have made about his wife’s hair. I’d have made a joke about her boyfriend.’ And then that trended and made the papers.”
Like many others in Hollywood, Gervais stated that Will Smith had a major overreaction to the moment, and that he wasn’t exactly sure that the star was thinking during that given moment.
