The star made a mistake that ended up staying in the blockbuster flick.
Titanic is arguably one of the most famous blockbuster smash hits of all time, with many of us probably able to recite the film’s script in our sleep if we had to.
From the iconic ‘Draw me like one of your French girls’ to highly-quotable ‘I’m king of the world’ – it’s clear the movie has a whole bunch of famous lines.
However, there was one particular instance in Titanic when leading star Leonardo DiCaprio made a mistake which surprisingly ended up being kept in the flick regardless.
Potentially the movie that led to the star’s decade-spanning career filled with an impressive filmography of work including The Wolf of Wall Street, Shutter Island and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
Not just the proud owner of jam-packed portfolio, DiCaprio is also the recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and three Golden Globe Awards.
But, it’s clear that in his early days in Hollywood – things didn’t always pan out according to plan.
While the film was a major success, going on to take home 11 Oscars, a young DiCaprio made quite the blunder on set.
Arguably one of the most well-known scenes in the whole film, par the violinists playing as the sink ships, the mistake was made during the scene when Jack (DiCaprio) sketches a nude picture of Rose, played by Kate Winslet, after she told him: “Draw me like one of your French girls.”
While that line cemented itself in cinematic history, there was one other line which shortly followed after that almost never existed at all.
In the movie, Jack obliges with Rose’s request and instructs her: “Lie on that bed, uh I mean couch.”
But, that response was never the way the original script panned out.
Instead, DiCaprio was supposed to say: “Lie on that couch.”
But the slight mishap was liked by the director, James Cameron, so much so that he decided to keep it in the film anyway.
Even though he fumbled the line – I’m sure we can all appreciate the extra special quality it brought to the intimate scene.
Fans of the cult classic have also just recently discovered the alternative ending of Titanic which has since been branded ‘awful’.
The timeless piece of cinema very nearly ended in a totally different way with many claiming it would’ve ‘ruined’ the entire film.
“The alternate ending to Titanic is hilarious. This would have absolutely ruined the film for me,” one fan wrote.
Another added: “Damn I was really hoping he was gonna grab the necklace and shove her off. I don’t even remember what the real ending was.” while someone else commented: “Awful lmao.”
A fourth said: “This cannot be real.”
Well, thank goodness Cameron stuck with the first.
