And filmmaker Edward Zwick has revealed the potential reason behind this recurring pattern in his memoir. He shared that the Oscar-winning actor was found going through the pages of Victoria’s Secret catalog on the set of the 2006 film Blood Diamond.

The Blood Diamond director reminisced about working on the film in his memoir, Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood. In a snippet of his memoir shared by an X (Twitter) user, the filmmaker described DiCaprio and other cast members as “terrific actors.” Recalling an incident of the “mildest misbehavior” of the cast members, Zwick shares,

“It seems Leo was currently between gorgeous girlfriends. One morning I walked into the makeup trailer as I often did to discuss the day’s work with him. I found him in the chair waiting for his turn and noticed he was paging through a Victoria’s Secret catalog.”

The Glory director, surprised by DiCaprio’s interest in the catalog, asked the Titanic star what he was doing, only for Jennifer Connelly, who was sitting beside him, to reply, “Shopping,” without even casting a glance at the filmmaker.

In his memoir, filmmaker Edward Zwick also revealed that the renowned actor Leonardo DiCaprio quietly made donations to build a well in the village where they filmed the 2006 political action thriller Blood Diamond, as per People. He shared that the Killers of the Flower Moon star “quietly donated the funds to leave a place in better shape.”

Blood Diamond features DiCaprio in the role of Danny Archer, a complex character navigating the dangerous terrain of civil war-torn Sierra Leone in pursuit of a rare pink diamond. Expressing his admiration for DiCaprio’s commitment to leaving a positive impact on the places he has worked, Zwick said, “In this, and in some many other areas of his life, Leo walks it like he talks it.”The movie, set against the backdrop of turmoil in Sierra Leone, was filmed in locations such as Mozambique and Cape Town, South Africa. Zwick also shared that DiCaprio’s practice of extending aid to filming locations eventually led to the establishment of a studio policy.
