The Emmy Award nominations on Wednesday morning made history across various categories including Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series which recognized Lily Gladstone and Kali Reis for their work in Hulu‘s Under The Bridge and Max‘s True Detective: Night Country, respectively.
Until today, August Schellenberg was the only Native American actor to be nominated for an acting Emmy. He was recognized for his portrayal of Sitting Bull in HBO’s Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee in 2007 under the “Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Move” category.
Additionally, FX’s Reservation Dogs finally earned some Emmy love for its final season including Best Comedy Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy for D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.
Reis, who is Afro-Indigenous, played Trooper Evangeline Navarro in Issa Lopez’s True Detective: Night Country opposite Jodie Foster and Fiona Shaw. The series earned a total of 19 Emmy nominations today including “Best Limited or Anthology Series,” “Best Lead Actress” for Jodie Foster and “Best Supporting Actor” for John Hawkes.
