While Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp seems to be making a headway in her career with the upcoming Robert Eggers horror film Nosferatu, the failure of The Idol still looms over her. The HBO show was canceled after five episodes, with many fans criticizing its themes and graphic depictions of s*x and n*dity.
However, the show seems to have received one feather in its cap as it recently earned the Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. The series centered around a troubled pop star who gets swayed by a cult leader. With the Emmy win, Lily-Rose Depp seems to have surpassed her father in the TV space.

Before he became famous as Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and a wide variety of characters, Johnny Depp had his breakthrough with the spy TV show 21 Jump Street. The show propelled Depp to national stardom and made him a household name, leading to roles in films like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Cry Baby.
Despite the show’s popularity and impact, neither Depp nor 21 Jump Street received any love at the Emmys. However, his daughter Lily-Rose Depp seems to have surpassed Depp in this one aspect as her HBO series The Idol recently won the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Choreography (via Deadline). The show was canceled after five episodes.

The HBO series was co-created and directed by Sam Levinson, known for the controversial teen drama Euphoria. The Idol was equally controversial and drew criticism for its excessive n*dity and graphic s*x scenes. The show also starred Abel Tesfaye a.k.a The Weeknd, who co-created the show along with Levinson.
The series was first set to be directed by Amy Seimetz and had even finished filming multiple episodes in the six-episode series when there was a creative overhaul. According to Variety, the show was reshot after Seimetz’s exit, with Levinson giving a new creative direction to the series.

Lily-Rose Depp’s The Idol chronicles the life of a troubled pop star fresh out of a career setback hoping to make a comeback with a new album and a new image. Depp plays Jocelyn, who meets Abel Tesfaye’s Tedros, a cult leader and a club owner who tries to control the direction of her career, alienating her from her team.
The series premiere features Depp rehearsing a routine for a seductive music video, which goes terribly wrong. Choreographer Nina McNeely, who recently won an Emmy for the show, mentioned that she wanted the routine to reflect the statement the pop star wanted to give out. She said to Variety,
She’s a former child star. She was at the pinnacle of her fame, then went through a rough patch and had a mental breakdown. And in the rehearsal scene, that’s her big comeback; she’s rehearsing for her big comeback, so there’s an insane amount of pressure on her.
The choreographer also mentioned that she took inspiration from prominent music artists such as Paula Abdul, Bob Fosse, and Britney Spears.
