Matthew McConaughey rose to prominence with his supporting role in the 1993 film, Dazed and Confused. His career eventually blossomed in the 2000s when he starred as the leading man in rom-com films which included his film with Kate Hudson, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool’s Gold (2008). Their on-screen chemistry was widely acclaimed by critics and fans however not everything was good between them.

While their chemistry was great on-screen with the duo being good friends, the latter had a problem with his “manly” smell. The actor once opened up about how she kept demanding he apply deodorant as it was too much for her.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have known each other for many years. After working on the two films together, they have maintained a strong bond however it doesn’t mean that they have to keep up with everything.

Back in 2008, the duo appeared together in Fool’s Gold in which the duo had to film some love scenes. While the scenes were not much of a problem for the duo, the former was unwilling to continue filming the scenes due to the latter’s natural smell.

He is well-known for not using any cologne or deodorant for years. Though he opened up about taking a good diet and regular showers which would avoid his condition of wearing any fragrance, his co-star had different opinions on the same.

He shared at the time,

“Kate Hudson can’t stand it. She always brings a salt rock, which is some natural deodorant, and says, ‘Would you please put this on?’”

Hudson remained persistent on McConaughey’s smell and even forced him to use some natural products that she brought to get rid of his smell.

Matthew McConaughey mavel superheroWhile his smell seemed a major problem for Hudson, the People’s Sexiest Man Alive alum never thought of his natural fragrance as an issue. In an interview with Elite Daily, he opened up about how many women including his mother have no problem with odor.

“The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, ‘Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man, and, two, smells like you.”

The Interstellar actor further added that he doesn’t “like to smell like someone or something else.”

Even actor, Yvette Nicole Brown, who worked alongside him in Tropic Thunder shared in an interview that McConaughey “smells like granola and good living.”

While avoiding deodorant would seem unhygienic to many, he claimed that he has maintained his lifestyle by taking multiple showers a day. Despite the complaint, Hudson and he gets along with each other.
