The video was posted in January 2024 shows the husband-and-wife duo on stage during a joint performance when Katharine talks about how she met David in 2006. Katharine points out to an old photo of herself on a screen behind her and says, “You may not know we met 17, almost 18 years ago when I was a little chubby and cheerful contestant on American Idol.” David, who used to be a guest mentor in season 5 replies, “Oh, yeah, you were fat.”

The singer-songwriter finished as the runner-up to Taylor Hicks. The same season also included Chris Daughtry and the late Mandisa Hundley, who died at the age of 47 in April 2024. Fans have been rushing to the comments section of the viral video to criticize the music legend.
