Original True Detective Creator Calls Jodie Foster’s Season 4 ‘Stupid’ Over 1 Storyline That Makes No Sense

True Detective creator talked about how he doesn’t seem to like True Detective: Night Country much!

True Detective, the American drama series that focused on police officers and detectives, decided to change its gears and jump off to Alaska. With Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the lead roles in True Detective: Night Country, it seems that the series might not live up to its predecessor!

Despite the series getting recognition for the work and the series creator wanting to put Jodie Foster in her original roots, it seems that the original series creator of True Detective is not impressed with the results. The writer even publicly declared that he shouldn’t be “blamed” for the story of the series since he had no input.

Starring in True Detective: Night Country, the duo of Jodie Foster and Kali Reis investigate several researchers disappearing in the cold dark regions of Alaska. The original series, which was more sunny and in the city is starkly opposite of the frozen and dark approach for Night Country.

The creator of the first three seasons of the show, Nic Pizzolatto, recently engaged some fans in his latest Instagram post. Talking about how Season 4 paid homage to the OG series, Pizzolatto wrote: “Haha. So stupid”. On the other hand, a fan asked whether he was involved in the story ideation for this season and Pizzolatto replied that he wasn’t. Taking the answer in a negative tone, the writer seemed to hint that he did not enjoy Night Country since he told the fans they “cannot blame me”.

“I certainly did not have any input on this story or anything else. Can’t blame me.”

Against the sunny cases in True Detective, season 4 opened to a lesser rating than its predecessor as it stands at a rating of 7.2/10 on IMDB (average of 3 episodes). Series creator Issa Lopez seemed to hint that the low score was because of review-bombing, but it cannot be confirmed for certain.

Why Did Creator Issa Lopez Cast Jodie Foster In The Series?

Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs

Well, it all comes down to the simple fact that Jodie Foster was cast in the role of Clarice Starling in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. Starring alongside Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lecter, Foster was renowned around the world. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, here’s what the series creator had to say about casting Foster in the lead role.

“I thought, Let’s have Jodie Foster. You know? She’s how this all started, and she was magnificent in that [movie], as she has been in many things. But we don’t see her as often as we want, and we’ve never seen her for several episodes of a whole series, you know? So what a luxury.”

She further continued,

“So when I wrote this with her in mind and when she said yes, I simply couldn’t believe it. It was a dream come true.”

Well, True Detective: Night Country has been receiving some flak from the world but if the people are indeed review-bombing the series like Issa Lopez alleges, a rating of 7.2/10 on IMDB is a pretty good starting point! With 3 episodes to its name, the series is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
