Yes, another staffer has parted ways with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but the reasoning here is totally understandable — and notably more amicable than past partings of the ways!
This time, it’s their trusted publicist Ashley Hansen. According to a report published by Page Six on Thursday, Hansen is breaking off from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their company Archewell…to start her own El Lay-based PR and consulting firm! Apparently it’s going to be called Three Gate Strategies — oooh! Good for her!!
And much to the woes of Sussex haters, Hansen and Meghan alike both have good things to say about parting ways! See, Hansen had been working as the royal couple’s global press secretary and head of communications. Harry and Meghan’s official press secretary Kyle Boulia reported to her. So, she was way up there! Leaving to start her own firm seems pretty natural if you ask us. In a statement Markle shared with multiple media outlets on Thursday afternoon, the Suits alum praised Hansen vociferously:
“We are so proud of Ashley, especially as a female entrepreneur. We look forward to having her focused expertise on our business and creative projects and her continued oversight of our communications team. My husband and I are excited to be alongside Ashley as she builds something extraordinarily special with her firm.”
As Meghan’s statement notes, Ashley will continue to consult on branding and PR strategies with the A-list couple part-time. So it doesn’t seem like there’s any undercurrent of toxicity here, as some reports have suggested with previous staffing exits (more on them in a bit). To that end, Hansen added:
“I am incredibly grateful to The Duke and Duchess for their continued trust. Their unwavering support and belief in my new firm has been meaningful and is a testament to their leadership. I knew when they first hired me that they were giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t be happier to continue working together.”
Now back to the haters… Yes, Hansen is reportedly the 19th (!) person to quit working for the Sussexes in the last few years. The other 18 preceding Ashley out the door include now-former production manager Bennett Levine, ex-head of marketing Fara Taylor, and former head of content Ben Browning.
And most notably, as you may recall, Josh Kettler was the couple’s chief of staff for only THREE MONTHS before quitting that gig back in August. At the time, a source told DailyMail.com that Kettler “wasn’t comfortable” with some aspects of the job and “thought it was better to leave now than continue in a job that he did not enjoy.” That was not a good look to have him bounce so soon. But despite all that, former staffers spoke out in support of Markle amid reports she’s supposedly extremely hard to work for. She and Harry have even been called the “best bosses” by one ex-employee. And by the sound of Ashley’s statement, it feels like she’d agree with a lot of the praise.
What do U make of this, Perezcious readers?! Another happy employee off to greener pastures, or are they all really fleeing a sinking ship?!
