Reacher season 2 featured characters from the 110th Special Investigations Unit, and one of them needs to appear in season 3 more so than Roscoe. With the Reacher cast led by Alan Ritchson, the series became one of Amazon’s best shows and received positive reviews from both critics and audiences due to its engaging plot and great characters. Although Roscoe was a fan-favorite, there’s another character whose presence in Reacher season 3 is even more important than hers.
Reacher is an anthology series, so each season introduces a new storyline and supporting cast. While some members of the ensemble will likely not appear again in future seasons of the show, the Amazon Original project does leave room for season 3 to have returning characters. Admittedly, having characters reprise their roles in the series poses a narrative challenge due to the nature of the show. It is still essential that people who were important to the title character’s growth be part of the Reacher season 3 cast, specifically one member of the 110th.
David O’Donnell Was A Highlight Of Reacher Season 2 (& Season 3 Needs Him)
O’Donnell And Reacher Had A Great Dynamic
David O’Donnell was one of the beloved new characters from Reacher season 2. His sense of humor, glib attitude, and buddy-cop dynamic with Reacher was refreshing. Somehow, O’Donnell is also the most personable character in the series. He has a wife and family that he loves and takes care of. Like many people from Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books, O’Donnell doesn’t appear in any of the novels after Reacher moves on to a new investigation.
However, that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be in Reacher season 3, given that the show has made several changes to the source material. His dynamic with Reacher and analytical mind in season 2 elevated the show and would likely do the same for the third season. While the fact that Reacher being a wanderer makes him an intriguing character, there will come a time when he has to settle down and O’Donnell shows him that it’s possible to have roots in one place and still be happy.
How Reacher Season 2’s Ending Sets Up O’Donnell’s Return
Reacher Is Likely To Call On O’Donnell In Reacher Season 3
In the Reacher season 2 ending, Richtson’s hero promised Neagley he would keep in touch with his family, thereby setting up O’Donnell’s possible return in future seasons of the series. If O’Donnell were to be featured in Reacher season 3, it’s likely that he won’t be engaged in dangerous missions because of the responsibility he has to his family. Instead of having a major role like he did in season 2, O’Donnell could get involved in Reacher’s next case in the same way that Finlay did in the sophomore season.
While O’Donnell’s happy-go-lucky personality was the perfect match for Reacher’s stoic nature, he’ll probably just have a cameo if he is going to appear in Reacher season 3.
Since Reacher told Neagley he wouldn’t be distant, he might call O’Donnell for help when he needs him. That way, his former teammate and friend could help Reacher without putting himself in any danger. While O’Donnell’s happy-go-lucky personality was the perfect match for Reacher’s stoic nature, he’ll probably just have a cameo if he is going to appear in Reacher season 3, the same way that Finlay did in season 2. Still, that is so much better than not seeing him again ever.
