The hit disaster drama Yellowjackets is on its way to Netflix. The show follows a group of girls on a soccer team as they desperately work to survive after suffering through a plane crash. With just their wits and a few precious resources, the girls need to survive in the frozen wilderness as they await rescue. The show deals with themes of grief, survival, and even cannibalism. While Yellowjackets season 3 is currently in development, season 1 will be reaching a wider audience soon.

In a recent X/Twitter post, Netflix announced that Yellowjackets season 1 will be coming to the platform on October 1. The announcement is strictly for domestic audiences, who will be able to begin watching as soon as next month. There is no word on season 2, so the controversial follow-up will likely remain restricted to Paramount+, which is its current streaming home.

Did You Know: The real-world Donner Party and Lord of the Flies both influenced Yellowjackets .

Attacking the age-old genre of survival in the wilderness, the show explores the impact that an isolated and life-risking journey in the Canadian tundra could have on a group of young girls. There is infighting, horror, and endless challenges as they resort to cannibalism and butchery to survive. It is somehow even more brutal than Lord of the Flies and touches on the themes of the value of good moral judgment in a survival situation.

Yellowjackets has had nothing but positive reviews. While season 2 did receive a poor reception from audiences, season 1 was a hit for audiences and critics alike. The first season earned a 100% score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and a 73% from audiences. Season 2 was still Certified Fresh with a 93% score, but audiences bashed it with a 42% rating. As only season 1 is coming to Netflix, the negative response to season 2 is relatively inconsequential. Instead, the universally loved season is begging for new viewers.

The acting of both the adult stars and the teenage newcomers is incredible, as both manage to perfectly communicate the horror of their days in the wilderness. The show also manages to be a relatively short binge, with just 10 episodes in season 1. With Yellowjackets season 3 on the way, checking out season 1 on Netflix is a great way to get started with the show before the next horrors come.
