Sofronio Vasquez, the first Filipino and Asian to win “The Voice USA,” shared that one of the program’s coaches, Snoop Dogg, offered him help to bring his mother to America during the competition.

During his guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” last Thursday, Sofronio said that Snoop Dogg and his coach Michael Bublé became good friends during Season 26 of The Voice USA.

Until Snoop Dogg and Michael talk about Sofronio’s “humble beginnings” in the Philippines.

“There are other podcasts where they talk about my humble beginnings with just one room, in the Philippines, which was poor, and then I dreamed,” said the Filipino singer.

“They became so into the story, that Snoop Dogg opened up to Michael Bublé, ‘Why not fly mom to America?'” Sofronio recalled Snoop’s offer to him.

“Snoop’s team reached out to me, because most of the team with Snoop Dogg are also Filipinos, his PAs, his wardrobe too, Filipinos mostly,” Sofronio said.

According to Sofronio, some suspected that Snoop Dogg’s offer of help might be a way for the latter to snatch him from Michael’s team. But Michael refused to let him go.

Despite this, Sofronio’s mother decided not to fly to America because she wanted her son to focus more on the competition.

“I am so happy and blessed that my mom has that perspective, because we all had a dream. And of course our mothers, me specifically, I really want her to be there. But I didn’t see her perspective like that because, if we have our moms beside us, you’ll take care of us. I’m thankful that she has that concept,” the singer said.

In the finals of the competition, Sofronio impressed the audience with his rendition of “Unstoppable” by Sia and “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman.”

In a video post by The Voice on Instagram , Snoop Dogg can be seen cleaning and removing the confetti from Sofronio’s clothes when he was announced the winner of the competition. — FRJ, GMA Integrated News
