Sofronio Vasquez, the 32-year-old from Mindanao, Philippines, has proven his musical prowess once again as he delivered a deeply emotional rendition of Barry Manilow’s “I Write the Songs” on The Voice. Despite getting choked up during his performance, Vasquez effortlessly nailed every note, captivating the audience with his powerful voice and raw emotion.
Vasquez’s journey to victory on The Voice was nothing short of remarkable. Following two electrifying performances of “Unstoppable” by Sia and “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, he garnered the most votes from viewers, securing his spot as the winner. Along with the prestigious title of The Voice champion, Vasquez also earned a $100,000 prize and a record deal.
In an emotional moment after his win, Vasquez expressed his gratitude to his coach, Michael Bublé, saying, “Your mentorship is a blessing to me, my family, and to all the dreamers out there. You have opened up so many doors.” This win marked Bublé’s first The Voice victory, and he made history as the only coach to have two contestants in the top five, with 17-year-old Shye from New York taking the runner-up spot.

Vasquez’s rise to fame began in his home country, where he auditioned for The Voice of the Philippines nearly a decade ago but failed to turn any chairs. Despite that setback, he remained determined to pursue a music career. After the sudden passing of his father, Vasquez moved to the U.S. to chase his dream and make his father proud. He found a dental program in Buffalo, New York, where he eventually settled in Utica, a place he now proudly calls home.

Before stepping into the music world full-time, Vasquez was on track to become a dentist. He passed the dental boards in the Philippines and even practiced for a while. However, music eventually called, and his cover of “That’s What Friends Are For” went viral on Facebook, amassing over 9.5 million views. His success continued as his TikTok cover of “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You” gained around 1 million views.
