The Last of Us season 1 was criticized for its lack of action sequences, but the season 2 teaser is full of great action scenes ripped straight from the game. While the first season of The Last of Us was as close to a perfect video game adaptation as possible – beautifully translating all the game’s lovable characters and shocking dramatic turns into a new medium – it was met with a handful of complaints. Some of the new characters, like Kathleen, seemed like unnecessary additions, and most of the game’s action scenes got axed.
In the original video game version of The Last of Us, the infected are lurking around every corner and every city Joel and Ellie enter contains a new hostile group that wants them dead. But the TV show has long stretches where Joel and Ellie don’t encounter any infected, and some of the game’s biggest action sequences – like the bloater at the school or the stalkers in the hotel basement – got cut entirely. The Last of Us season 2 is already answering those complaints with its action-packed trailer.
The Last Of Us Season 2 Teaser Shows A Bunch Of Exciting Action Sequences From The Game
Season 2 is shaping up to be an action-packed thrill-ride
The recently released teaser trailer for The Last of Us season 2 is jam-packed with thrilling action sequences taken directly from the game. Seraphites are seen marching through the woods, using fire to light their path just like they do when they’re hunting Ellie in the game. Ellie is seen running from a clicker in an abandoned subway station, just like in the game, and the scene even has the same ominous red lighting as the game.
The only glimpse of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby shows a horde of infected bearing down on her from the other side of a chain-link fence, exactly the same way it happens in the game. The Last of Us season 2 is shaping up to be an action-packed thrill-ride. Hopefully, it also brings in Ellie and Jesse’s ride through Hillcrest and Abby and Lev’s ride through the fires of war-torn Haven.
Scarcity Of Action Scenes Was The Biggest Complaint About The Last Of Us Season 1
Season 1 was heavy on character development, but light on action
While The Last of Us season 1 was praised for beautifully capturing Joel and Ellie’s dynamic and expanding on the narrative and mythology of the game, it was criticized for the scarcity of its action scenes. It cut out Ellie covering Joel with a rifle, it cut out Joel and Ellie jumping from a bridge into a rushing river, and it cut out Ellie and David fending off dozens of infected while they await James’ return. The Last of Us season 2 seems to be answering those complaints with a boatload of game-accurate action sequences.
