THESE CELEBS ARE ‘IN TALKS’ TO REPLACE KATY PERRY ON AMERICAN IDOL
By Movieguide® Contributor
Luke Bryan recently revealed some of the famous faces who might be replacing Katy Perry as a judge on the next season of AMERICAN IDOL.
“I’ve said several names. I think Pink has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks,” Bryan told Billboard.
He called the process “interesting,” adding that Disney has been “really tight-lipped” with him, fellow judge Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest.
“We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back,” Bryan said. “I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide.”
Perry, who joined AMERICAN IDOL in 2017, announced her departure from the show earlier this year.
“I think this will probably be my last season for IDOL,” she revealed on an episode of JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! “I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”
Former AMERICAN IDOL contestant Adam Lambert has his own pick for who he’d like to see in the judge’s seat.
“I think LeAnn Rimes would be great,” he shared. “I just worked with LeAnn Rimes down in Australia on THE VOICE, and she’s so lovely, so down to Earth — very spiritual and deep, but great sense of humor. I think she’d be good on the show.”
Kelly Clarkson, who was the competition show’s first champion, revealed whether or not she’s thinking about coming back to the world of IDOL.
“No. No. I can’t do that, only because I promised my kids,” the singer and talk show host explained. “I was like, ‘I wanna be there as much as I possibly can. And it would put me in L.A., and that’s why I had to quit THE VOICE.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Perry’s exit from AMERICAN IDOL:
Katy Perry is saying goodbye to AMERICAN IDOL after seven years on the singing competition show.
“I think this will probably be my last season for IDOL,” Perry said while appearing on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!
The pop star added that she loves the show “so much,” saying it has made her feel “connected with the heart of America.”
Fellow judge Lionel Richie weighed in on Perry’s exit from the show, saying, “We didn’t know about it, but it makes sense.”
“I have 400 years of stories and a life in the music business. I have things that I’ve done,” he continued. “And so when Katy says, ‘I want to go and create some stories,’ remember, she’s young. But the point is that you have to take some time and actually be an artist.”
There’s no word yet on who will replace Perry, but the Daily Mail reported that AMERICAN IDOL execs are thinking about Jennifer Lopez or Taylor Swift.
